This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".

Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

Homosexuals with guns is a really dangerous combination. The males will use a gun to the head of every young boy—is that their game?

The more Sharia Law is talked about openly in this country, the more I predict gays will suddenly become believers in the Second Amendment.

Maybe if people become responsible for their own safety, they will start to see the virtues of individuality in other areas. It’s a start.

She contends that few are trained rigorously enough to deploy their weapons in the shock and heat of an attack, that they'll shoot innocent bystanders, and that more times than not their firearms will be turned against them.

Even though my wife is trained, prepared, and equipped with a SIG 229 in 40, I think a woman that draws a firearm on a perp is enough to defer continued action. Especially if the woman is a red head. :-)

That would be interesting if it were true. Trouble is, it hasn't happened. But libs never let facts get in the way of any of their many agendas.

Post-9/11 fears seem to be a factor, as are the pro-gun politicking of the National Rifle Association and the marketing, particularly to women, by handgun manufacturers.

These reporters just won't even dare to mention the real reasons;
Obama's dreadnaught-like desire to destroy America and the rise in flash mob activities by the demographic that elected him in the first place.

I forget now. Will that be before or after the streets run red with blood from a new “wild west”, etc, etc.?

It never seems to phase them for a second that their talking points are demonstrably false.

On a happier note, Mrs Pessimist has a PK380, just like the lady in the article. Nice little weapon!

And I just recently picked up a Commander sized Kimber like the one depicted. (Mine’s a Tac Pro 2, in 9mm though.)

It is always in the future as with the increased ownership, the predictions are never realized.

“I’d never considered a gun,” Natanel says. “...I didn’t think anyone should have them.”

Of course liberals don’t. Until something is threatening THEM!

"I'd never considered a gun," Natanel says. "...I didn't think anyone should have them."

A conservative is a former liberal that's been mugged.

In her case, an ex-lover broke into her house and scared her spitless.

Good for her, when you need protection now, the cops are at best, minutes away.

Since she's shooting twice a month, she not only likes to shoot, she is preparing in case her ex-lover, or any other whacko, takes a run at her.

Owning a gun that sits, unused, in a bedside drawer, with never having any shooting experience is almost more dangerous than having no gun.

Since I've been shooting for over 60 years, I'm probably not qualified to get into that discussion, but training and usage is very important both physically and mentally.

Stats show ccw citizens shoot fewer rounds at a threat, hit their threats more often with less rounds, and accidentally hit far fewer innocent bystanders than police officers.

Handgun ownership surges in new groups (Women, gays, liberals and college kids)

IMO that is a reflection that fewer and fewer people have any trust in government at all. Hopey Changey has turned out to be even scarier than Chimpy McBushitler.

Americans who have acquired handguns for protection are living with “serious delusions,” says Caroline Brewer, a spokeswoman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. She contends that few are trained rigorously enough to deploy their weapons in the shock and heat of an attack, that they’ll shoot innocent bystanders, and that more times than not their firearms will be turned against them

WOW!!!!!

I guess those fellers at Lexington and Concrod made a SERIOUS MISTAKE!!! (sarcasm)

What a rube. I want to get a colt .45 single action cowboy style revolver. I think one of those will do the trick - or a 1911 colt automatic machined for target shooting.

Twenty years ago, 76 percent of women felt that way about handguns, and 68 percent of all people in the country were wary enough of firearms of any kind to tell Gallup pollsters that they backed laws more strictly limiting their sale. Then what Gallup calls "a clear societal change" began. In October, a Gallup poll found record-low support for a handgun ban - at 26 percent among all responders and 31 percent among women.

These statements are true, as far as they go but are presented in a (intentionally?) misleading manner. They present it as if a craving for tyranny were the norm and the trend towards freedom is a new thing, a departure from past attitudes. Historically, Americans didn't have the pantywaist attitudes towards guns and towards self defense these guys claim were common 20 years ago, it's THOSE attitudes that are the historical anomaly. In fact, I'm not sure I even believe those numbers were accurate for THAT time period. It's about as honest as the way global warming sycophants choose the time periods they publish.

My dad is one of those who believes that the presense of a gun will cause every child in a 3-block radius to sneak into the house and shoot themselves. He’s pretty freaked out that I’m getting a CC permit.

Remember those double barrel shotguns (Lupos), that Michael Corleone’s bodyguards carried while he was in hiding in Sicily?

I always thought they were a very good choice for self defense. They are limited to two fast shots, which is nearly always enough plus with an 18” barrel they are several inches shorter than a pump or auto. They also are very intimidating.

I guess technically a short barrel pump or auto would be more effective. I still think I would choose the Lupo because of it’s handiness.

One could do far worse than a Ruger 10-22 and a high quality 30 round mag. Even the standard ten round would be enough.

Having had the unwelcome and unpleasant duty to put down several dogs, I have been disturbed and surprised just how gruesome a soft point .22LR from a rifle barrel can be. Any soft point bullet from a .22 on up from a rifle or powerful pistol will do real damage to flesh.
