I think Mitts handlers have overdone his candidacy from the start and it has literally blown up in his face.

Mittens and his handlers have believed from the beginning that Mittens is the front runner and the inevitable nominee, as long as he stays on autopilot and does nothing to upset the applecart (ie., says nothing bold or takes any truly controversial stand on anything important). "Steady as she goes" has been the campaign's strategy. Cut a good appearance, keep smiling, stick with the playbook. Grind it up the middle.
