He mentions 25 years when he tries to sell his amnesty. When you read his actual written plan, there is no time limit. It is pretty obvious when you are trying to sell an amnesty, you use the most extreme case favorable to your position. Newt is no different than Obama and McCain, i.e., learn English, pay a fine, and get your status legalized. Newt attempts to confuse and fool people that because the illegals don't get a path to citizenship that this is not an amnesty. Pure sophistry.

And Ronmney has now changed his policy from "attrition thru enforcement" to some silly registration scheme. Newt and Romney are disasters on immigration.

Newt's immigration policy would cause lasting damage. Romney's is only slightly better.

Winner of the debate: Santorum
Newt and Perry did not do well.

Did any of them really articulate something different or dance like a marionette to avoid upsetting the nativists?

You ignore Newt dismissed Sawyer's attempt to saddle him with the Pew Hispanic Center's 15 years.

Yes, Newt takes a page out of GW's book in that regard. Just because a plan isn't a citizenship amnesty, doesn't mean that it still isn't an amnesty.

It is.

It's just not a full blown Reagan type of citizenship amnesty.
