Obama rips GOP block of consumer advocate

A terse President Obama ripped Senate Republicans' blocking confirmation the man Obama picked to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.

"We have nominated somebody, Richard Cordray ... who everybody says is highly qualified," Obama said during a brief news conference at the White House. "This morning, Senate Republicans blocked his nomination, refusing to let the Senate even go forward with an up-or-down vote on Mr. Cordray. This makes absolutely no sense."

Richard Cordray was the Ohio attorney general when Obama tapped him to lead the new consumer protection bureau, part of a financial reform package passed by Congress and signed into law by Obama last year.

The Senate fell short of the 60 votes needed to proceed with Cordray's confirmation vote. Fifty-three senators voted to advance the confirmation process, while 45 senators, all Republicans, voted against it.

Congress, he said, apparently forgot "we got [into] the financial mess we did [because] regulators weren't doing their jobs."

He told Senate Republicans he would not allow "politics as usual stand in the way of American consumers being protected against unscrupulous" financial practitioners.

Asked whether he'd consider a recess appointment of Cordray, Obama said, "I won't take any options off table."

It is hard to believe the GOP is doing something right.

Judging from the way Obama and the Rats have been conducting business, their consumer advocate would probably be more like a business executioner.

Two things:

First, "We have nominated somebody, Richard Cordray ... who everybody says is highly qualified,"

Perhaps if we bow down far enough and slobber on his exalted ring enough, he'll tell us who "everybody" is.

Second, Congress, he said, apparently forgot "we got [into] the financial mess we did [because] regulators weren't doing their jobs."

And precisely how many of those badly behaving regulators have been called to heel? Jail time perhaps?

This entire episode is a massive, disgusting sham. What a joke.

Let's have the Revolution NOW before we get dumbed down to the point that we can't.

Can someone tell me the difference between these agencies:

United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and The FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection or CFPB - Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Do we really need another Government agency filled with the requisite Bureaucrats? Just more big government piggy backing other bureaucratic snarls.

I listened to a GOP statement that they were not going to authorize one more czar for Obama’s regime.

Between that and the way Holder tapdanced in his shiny little tap shoes yesterday, I felt pride in at least SOME of the Republicans in DC.

‘For the first time in my adult life’ (sorry couldn’t help that).

This makes absolutely no sense.

It makes sense if you LISTEN to their argument. But he's got his fingers in his ample ears going NANANANANAICANTHEARYOUNANANANANANA

If all these regulators we have failed, how pray tell will having one more regulator fix that?

Has anyone noticed that Obama spews more venom, and disgust, at Republicans than he does the true enemies of this country?
