I had a friend once who amused herself thinking up bumper stickers for states. The one she made up for California was brilliant. "California: It's All True." It is so vast and sprawling a place, so rich and various, that whatever you've heard about its wildness, weirdness and wonders, it's true.
That's the problem with Newt Gingrich: It's all true. It's part of the reason so many of those who know him are anxious about the thought of his becoming president. It's also why people are looking at him, thinking about him, considering him as president.
Ethically dubious? True. Intelligent and accomplished? True. Has he known breathtaking success and contributed to real reforms in government? Yes. Presided over disasters? Absolutely. Can he lead? Yes. Is he erratic and unreliable as a leader? Yes. Egomaniacal? True. Original and focused, harebrained and impulsiveall true.
Do you want evidence he's a Burkean conservative? Start with welfare reform in 1996. A sober, standard Republican? Go to the balanced budgets of the Clinton era. Is he a Tea Partier? Sure, he speaks the slashing lingo with relish. Is he moderate? Yes, that can be proved. Michele Bachmann this week called him a "frugal socialist," and there's plenty of evidence of that, too.
One way to view this is that he is so rich and varied as a character, as geniuses often are, that he contains worlds, multitudes. One senses that would be his way of looking at it. Another way to look at it: In a long career, one will shift views, adapt to circumstances, tack this way and that. Another way: He's philosophically unanchored, an unstable element. There are too many storms within him, and he seeks out external storms in order to equalize his own atmosphere.

Game is on. Okay to watch.

She won’t mind. Give her mine.

While Sharky comes to his collective senses, I am going to nap on my comfy couch to try to lose this headache and sorto of watch the Army/Navy game, so I can feel wonderful by the time of tonight’s debate!
>> “If you’re a gambler, Gringrich may be your guy.” <<
.
If you’re a socialist moron, he’s definitely your guy.
.
>> “ He eventually set a goal for himself to build a Republican majority and to take the speakership, and he determinately accomplished that goal.” <<
I saw nothing Noot did to build any Republican majority, and what we all got to see under Noot’s speakership was a dwindling number of Conservative Republicans in congress (8 knocked off by Noot himself) and a growing mass of socialist, big government legislation that looked a lot like what the Democrap congress produced.
You’ll need a powerful microscope to see any conservative effort from Noot. Most of it was like his fake “balanced budget” achieved by shoving the debt service out to new debt.
A Noot presidency will be worse for sure.

Diet coke will put you permanently to sleep.
Benedryl and sleep might be a help.

Black mold!
Snorting some diluted white vinegar may remove it, if you can take it.
I don’t know. I remember reading about our new speaker way back in the nineties. Don’t remember all the details but I do remember one thing because I thought it was pretty ballsy and was impressed that he actually pulled it off, and that was that as a young man Newt had set a goal for himself to become Speaker of the House. I also remember wondering at the time why speaker? Why not president? I ran some google searches the other night and was led to believe that he and Dick Armey did indeed lead the charge to the Republican Revolution and the Contract with America.
Does anyone know what time/channel is tonight’s debate?
Speaker of the House is the most powerful office in the world. It controls the purse.
Bill Clinton’s over-reach is what caused the “Republican Revolution,” and Noot’s socialism is what cancelled it. The Lewinsky affair gave us a few more years, but they were troubled years. The best thing about Monica was that FR grew rapidly as people sought a way to express their rage. You seemed to be aware of the Noot effect back then, but you seem to be losing some of your fire this year; I hope not.
There is a man that has done more for conservative positions than any other I know in the last 15 years; his name is Jim something...
What socialism? I’m on fire by the way to defeat both Romney and Obama. Sarah was my choice to do that, but it didn’t work out. Neither did Bachmann, Cain or Perry. Newt’s now leading the charge and he’s been in the arena before, first with the Reagan Revolution and continuing after Reagan with the Republican Revolution and now with the TEA Party Revolution. I believe he more than any of the others recognizes the danger Obama and the socialist left poses to America and is determined to rip it out by the roots! He’s battle tested and rip roaring to go!! Political Revolution seems to be in his blood!!
