Vice presidents don’t have any power to do anything that would affect us. As long as a president is alive, it doesn’t really matter who’s vice president.

Really? I remember lots of Palin apologists in 2008 crowing about how Palin was going to somehow influence McCain and that we should vote for McCain-Palin as a result.
