"but he did boost the economy in the nineties"
Misplaced nostalgia. Newt "boosted" the economy like thugs "boost" hubcaps. He led the charge for NAFTA, amnesty and MFN status for China. He declared open warfare on the US middle class, and won. It took 3-4 yrs for the effects to really start setting in, but the US job market - and the real economy behind it, have never really been the same. How anyone who's ever worked for a paycheck could rationalize voting for Newt is beyond me.

He led the charge for NAFTA . . . Negotiations on the NAFTA agreement between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico began in 1986. It was signed on Dec 17, 1992 by G.H.W. Bush, Prime Minister Mulroney, and President Salinas in San Antonio, Texas. Before NAFTA could be ratified by the respective governments involved, Clinton took office. Clinton signed the final agreement on Jan 1, 1994.
Give the above, just how was it that Newt led the charge for NAFTA???????
