See my post 22. Beck is playing a rhetorical game on his audience.

Teddy Roosevelt becomes an evil progressive liberal SOB, then anyone who says I’m a TR republican is no good.

Sorry, Beck has a long way to go to prove TR a bum. Did TR in the early 1900’s wield strong presidential power? Yes. Is TR generally regarded (and properly so) as an American hero and icon throughout his career? Absolutely rightly so.

TR was a great American patriot and Glenn Beck is not able to make me forget it.

Woodrow Wilson is quite another story, and they were political enemies and opponents. TR begged WW to let Teddy lead his Rough Riders on the battlefield during WW1. Wilson turned him down for political reasons.

TR was a patriot and hero. I am not replacing him in my pantheon with Glenn Beck.

They will repeal Obamacare because either they do or it will be a short 4 years (or less) for them.

Maybe. Or maybe instead we would lower our expectations, make excuses, and say the other guy would be even worse, as we did with Bush for 8 long, dreadful years.

Intellectually...Gingrich is a searchlight while Beck is a 15 watt CFL

Intellectually, your take is a baloney sandwich. But then, you're prolly a progressive.

“President Obama will give an economic speech in Osawatomie, Kan., Tuesday at a location the White House says it was very specific in picking and was meant to stir echoes of President Teddy Roosevelt.”

I just got done listening to the interview then I saw your post. Agree. Newt hung himself. Glenn did a great job with the interview.

Video of the interview via Drudge: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/beck-doesnt-hold-back-in-gingrich-interview-tough-questions-on-mandates-big-govt-and-global-warming/

When Glenn asked “Shouldn’t we be getting away from these government subsidies?” and Newt said (to paraphrase) “No we should replace them with something better and more expensive.” I too realized that I cannot support the guy against any other Republican other than Romney. Romney and Newt are near the bottom of my list. They have been and, while I was open to Newt for a while, still am.

My thought at the end of the interview is that the race isn’t between Romney and Newt. The race is between Newt and whoever is willing to stand up against big government. It could have been Pawlenty but he quit. It could have been Palin but she decided not to run. It’s a month out from the first vote and I still don’t know who that person is.

As will I. He is not perfect but he did boost the economy in the nineties with the help of the Reagan era. I will hold my nose for Newt and hope for the best. It all depends on who he surrounds himself with.

With a progressive republican as president the collapse will still happen. Don’t kid yourself that since some knucklehead with an r after his name is elected that all will be well. We are on the edge of the abyss.

I don’t trust Newt. At all. That being said, good idea guy yes, but he can NOT beat Obama with the independents, Hollywood types, libs, no nothings, and the rest. Beating O is my bottom line.

Well, I for one find the ad he and pelousy did to be unforgivable. There's not enough doublespeak in the known universe to spin that one off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi6n_-wB154

In 2011, he said, “I think that there are ways to do it [paying for healthcare] that make most libertarians relatively happy. I’ve said consistently we ought to have some requirement to either have health insurance or you post a bond or in some way you indicate you are going to be held accountable.”

I hate the current mandate but I find the idea of letting people post a bond so that the rest of us won't be on the hook for them should they need expensive care sort of intriguing. Freeloading *is* a problem.

From the above link: Ron Paul is a bottom feeder. He refuses to support a Constitutional amendment to protect normal, heterosexual marriage. He voted to turn the United States military into a San Francisco bath house by repealing DADT. He wants to see drugs and prostitution legalized. He thinks Islamo-Nazi Iran should have a nuclear weapon. He surrounds himself with lunatics like Cindy Sheehan's love slave, Screwy Lewy Rockwell.

What does Beck think about Paul?

Best looking candidate I’ve seen thus far.

I agree he was a great patriot, an uncommon writer and man of letters. I grew up near his home and have read everything there is to know about the man. However, our understanding of T.R. in the Progressive context has come a long way. For a modern Republican to cite him as their role model, means something quite different. when John McCain told the media he was a "Teddy Roosevelt Republican" it was what he didn't say that counted: "I'm NOT a Reagan Republican". McCain was telling the Left he was a Republican they could "work with". Meaning, not a conservative at all. Same deal with Newt? I am not sure. That is what I think we are debating here.

I have a feeling Perry is going to end up getting another look by conservatives before this is all over.
