I suppose it’d be rude to suggest that history shows that creed, in action, followed out to the end, has callused more hearts and enslaved more minds than any religion.

This could almost be right out of Lucretius. Maybe if they had stuck with Latin they could have snuck it in:

et faciunt animos humilis formidine divom
depressosque premunt ad terram propterea quod
ignorantia causarum conferre deorum
cogit ad imperium res et concedere regnum
