He has not said whom he thinks (or “knows”) the “Mahdi” is. According to Shi’a theology, he is the direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. That’s all we know. I tend to agree with you, IF there is a “Mahdi,” he could very well end up being the Antichrist.
The only reason we haven’t had a nuke incident yet is because intelligence has managed to head them off — and no, I don’t think we’d really know about it necessarily if it happened. I imagine it has happened a time or two, and we are just gloriously oblivious to it. On the other hand, the “fable” of the suitcase nuke — that nukes can be smuggled in briefcases — is just that; it’s not reality. Most operative nukes are going to be a good bit bigger than a briefcase — and a good bit harder to conceal.
Of course, there may be one other reason that we haven’t had any other kind of WMD attack — nuke, biological or chemical — which is truly miraculous: “And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way” (2 Thessalonians 2:6,7). This refers directly to the one that will come, but I use it in reference to the “Restrainer,” the One who currently “letteth,” or “allows.” There are MANY evil things that COULD occur, but do NOT occur, and are not PERMITTED to occur, because the RESTRAINER is present to prevent their occurrence. That is my only explanation.
Only by God’s grace has something NOT happened yet. That could change at aly time.
