In a word — YES.
They are AT LEAST as crazy as you think they are — and then some. What most people miss is the fanatic dedication they have to their religion, and to their vision of the eschatological unfolding of the future.
These guys, the “Twelver’s,” a very extreme branch of Shi’a Muslims, of which Mahmoud Ahmadenijad, President of Iran is one, believe that Imam al-Mahdi (the “12th Imam”) the “Saviour” of all mankind and the final Caliph over the last great worldwide Islamic Caliphate (Empire) will “return,” and that it is their DUTY to create the circumstances that he must come and deliver them from. The “Mahdi” will come to a world plunged into chaos, accompanied by [the Muslim Prophet] Isa (Jesus Christ) and defeat Islam’s enemies, and set up the last Caliphate.
The “Twelver’s” believe it is THEIR role to “prepare the way for the arrival of Imam al-Mahdi,” and to “create the conditions that will bring about his arrival.” In other words, to advance militant Islam, create chaos, and push the world to the edge, so that only the “Mahdi” can “set things right.”
So — YES, they ARE that crazy, and THEN some. Consider these words, which NO ONE in the Western Leftist Media will REPORT, that were spoken by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last September, 2011 in his annual address to the UN General Assembly:
“This movement is certainly on its rightful path of creation, ensuring a promising future for humanity. A future that will be built when humanity initiates to tread the path of the divine prophets and the righteous under the leadership of Imam al-Mahdi, the Ultimate Savior of mankind and the inheritor to all divine messengers and leaders and to the pure generation of our great Prophet.
The creation of a supreme and ideal society with the arrival of a perfect human being who is a true and sincere lover of all human beings, is the guaranteed promise of Allah.
He will come alongside with Jesus Christ to lead the freedom and justice lovers to eradicate tyranny and discrimination, and promote knowledge, peace, justice freedom and love across the world. He will present to every single individual all the beauties of the world and all good things which bring happiness for humankind.
Today nations have been awakened. With the increase in public awareness,they no longer succumb to oppressions and discriminations.
The world is now witnessing more than ever, the widespread awakening in Islamic lands, in Asia, Europe, and America. These movements are ever expanding their spirit everyday and influence the pursuit of the realization of justice, freedom and the creation of a better tomorrow.
Our great nation stands ready to join hands with other nations to march on this beautiful path in harmony and in line with the shared aspirations of mankind.
Let us salute love, freedom, justice, wisdom, and the bright future that awaits humankind.

It should be noted that Ahmadenijad has said something like this in every one of his UN speeches since 2005, and each year he gets more clear and open, the last two years actually mentioning “Imam al-Mahdi” by title/name. He has also claimed, while in Iran, to have spoken of “speaking” to Imam al-Mahdi himself about his return.
So, is he that “crazy,” or that EVIL? Does it matter which? Would he really shoot nukes at Israel regardless of the consequences? Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Revolution of Iran said that the important thing was the Islamic Revolution, NOT Iran. There is NO reason to believe Ahmadenijad feels any differently. In fact, even Khomeini thought the “Twelver’s” were nuts. They think if they die, they have 72 perpetual virgins in paradise, and if they live, they rule with the “Mahdi.”
YES — they are THAT CRAZY — and that EVIL. NOTE: I don’t say this without a little knowledge on the subject. In a College Professor of Religion and History — just sayin.’
Alright, then why hasn’t a nuke gone off somewhere, if they wanted to build a dirty bomb - they could. IF they wanted to buy a nuke AND use it, they probably could. It’s been a number of years since Iran has been trying to acquire nuclear weapons, and I’m sure there are a number of black market groups that have sold weapons grade material, and even possibly low yield nuclear weapons to terrorist states, and terrorist groups. I always wonder that why hasn’t a nuclear weapon been detonated? How close have we come? Would the public even know if a plot was foiled?
There must be something holding them back.
In regards to him speaking to the “mahdi” do you believe him?
Who did he say the “mahdi” was?
I am only asking because I believe that this man will be the antichrist, and if he has spoken to him, that would mean we are very close to some very very terrible things happening.
