Yes, of course it matters. I’d have no problem supporting him if he got the nod.

I would only point out, though, to any Perry supporters who question Newt’s bona fides, that Georgia was every bit as solidly Democrat in the 70’s and 80’s as was Texas......yet Newt still ran as a Republican from day one.

Hank, the Dems in Texas in those days were much more conservative and anti big government than the Dems in the solid Dem South. After seeing the damage that LBJ (D) had done to the country in the ‘60s by stealing the money from Soc. Sec. to finance his “Great Society” and promote so many other liberal ideals and giveaway programs, the Texas Dems began switching parties and moving to the GOP, JUST LIKE PERRY DID. ...IMO: That’s what kept Texas from becoming another Dem stronghold like CA, NY, NJ, et al.
