Here's Hoping Herman Cain Will Stay In the Race
FOXNEWS.com ^ | December 2, 2011 | Dr. Alveda King

In the 15th Century, “Lady Justice” was introduced wearing a blindfold. Her sightlessness was meant to represent objectivity, in that justice is or should be meted out without fear or favor, regardless of identity, money, power or weakness. Blind justice and impartiality should be the goal.

[snip]

Suddenly, while Mr. Cain is soaring at the top of the polls, proposing to scrap our three million word tax code for a simpler, fairer, pro-growth 9-9-9 plan (getting rid of the tax code would arguably be the largest transfer of power from the government to the people since the U.S. Constitution was ratified. No wonder the establishment resists such an agent of change) he is besieged by the media, suffering “death of a thousand cuts,” as described by Cain Senior Adviser, Niger Innis.

For six unrelenting weeks, Mr. Cain has been the target of attacks on his character. His accusers have yet to prove anything, yet the man has been judged guilty in the court of public opinion without even a semblance of a fair trial.

[snip]

We the people must demand a more just political process. If someone is going to talk about another person’s character, they must have irrefutable proof and not just their word. The people should demand this and so should the media. A political campaign should address the many troubling issues facing the nation and not have to waste its resources defending meaningless allegations.

We must demand that the media reports on the issues, and let us see the platforms of the candidates. In the face of these attacks, on Mr. Cain and other presidential hopefuls, I’m inclined to find that Tabloid Justice is indeed blind, but far from objective.

I agree. I don’t like how he’s handled these issues - and I think, well, I know, he’s assembled a very flawed team that includes a number of folks who themselves don’t understand what Cain is all about - and the notion of going into a “holding pattern” of 72 hours while you re-assess is just death by amateurism. (If you re-assess, do so in private while publicly you are full speed ahead!).

BUT, he’s a good man and a great story, and I HATE HATE HATE that anyone can be sidetracked by what is obviously a manipulated smear campaign.

I'm sorry, NN, but Herman Cain has admitted he never told his wife about the money he gave to Ms. Rice.

Wow, Herman also gave money to Condi Rice?

It figures, freakin' RINO was a lousy Secretary of State too.

How much money did he help her out with? We don't know.

I truly believe he thought he was helping a friend in need. I don't believe it was huge amounts of money and that is why his wife didn't know.

My husband has been known to help out friends with money from time to time without discussing it with me beforehand. Cain is wealthy and what may seem like a lot of money to you and I is but a drop in the bucket to him and not worth discussion. I believe you can take an innocent situation and make it appear to look bad....that's what has happened here.

I've seen a close relative with stage 4 cancer and they did not have "fooling around" on their mind let alone have a body that would cooperate. This is a sham.

Pretty much all current Democrats and a frighteningly large number of Republicans will do ANYTHING to stop the transfer of power BACK to the people from the scum sucking government.

My review of the news located a source reporting the Atlanta campaign HQ event is scheduled 11A-1P today. If anyone has better info, please chime in.

here’s what: if Cain did have affairs and put his wife out front to lie a la Hillary for Bill C, i’m off the train. if however this is a giant Chicago smear job, assassinating the character of a decent guy, i’m going to fight like heck for the guy. i’m sick of this kind of stuff and what it says about our culture and morality.

First, I bet it is not just Rove; the good old boys club of the GOP; and scared Dems who do not want Cain in the race. I know for a fact that many CPA's and accountants have a huge concern...because with the 999 plan, they will lose a lot of business. Think about that and who else might be behind this smear campaign. However, that said:

There are a couple of things about this recent woman's story of a 13 year affair that have not been discussed and just do not make sense or add up. Yet, no one is asking these questions and, instead people like Rove and many in the media are assuming all the allegations have some truth. But....

(1) IF, and that is a big IF Cain helped her AND had an affair with her, just why would any sensible person expose that relationship when there was a chance that the man could become President and help her even more? It makes no sense if a person is loyal and thankful for any previous help that she received. Obviously she is neither, and her statement that she was concerned about the other women who accused Cain of some sexual harassment, makes no sense either. Why would a person, who is getting money from someone, cut of their own access to funds in order to help women who have already been shown to have lied and who certainly cannot help her? The only answer..ONLY.. is that she is lying also, and someone else promised her money if she said that Cain's help was more than just monetary and that she had an on-going affair. (yeah, right, like through the time that he was fighting and recovering from cancer???)

(2) How did this woman suddenly have a list of text messages ready and waiting to expose unless she had help from others to get this together and had been planning something so she could be paid by one of/some of Cain's enemies? And, how many other people has this woman hit up for money over the years? I am sure Cain is not the only one. Where is that list of text messages, or the names of Other people that she turned to for money? With her record it is most likely that Cain is not the only one she tapped for funds. Is she going to claim affairs with all of them?

(3) If Cain, as he admitted, has been giving her money, (as I am sure others have)...how about someone getting the IRS to investigate her and her bank account. I expect this woman never reported any financial "gifts" as income. And I am sure the money given to here were not considered "loans." Wonder how much money she has begged for and received for which she never paid taxes? This is a woman who should be investigated and made to "spread the wealth" and pay her fair share, ala Obama style.

(4) Obviously she has not been too strapped for cash if she can afford a cell phone and send thousands of text messages. It is apparent this woman is a blood-sucking leech and a slanderer. Her ex-partner took her to court for slander, and won, proving that even the courts (and her family, by the way) have all declared that she is a liar.

I feel so sorry for Cain. He has been hurt by all these allegations and I do not believe he is an unfaithful husband or a man who has done anything these women claim. He might not have become the final candidate, but this campaign against him was engineered to ruin his life, not just his chance at the White House. There are far more people who know him who can attest to his morality, sincerity, kind heart, and decency. Only a few greedy, low-life women have tried to discredit him in a way that is de plorable and slanderous. But the media tempts and encourages people to believe the liars rather than the true friends and co-workers and associates who know Cain's real character and qualities and who have defended him throughout all of these untrue stories.

“How much money did he help her out with? We don't know.”

We don't know because Cain refused to answer to a direct question about it, ‘On advise of council’.

He was asked exactly that in an interview by the ‘Union Leader’, and that was his answer.

Exactly. The lamestream media, the 'Rats and RINOs wouldn't care about the name of any alleged accuser, they just make the charge and let the smear and gossip mongers go wild.

AND, the underlying fact is that you (and others) are racing to judgment on a matter that is strictly between Herman Cain and his wife. It isn't a legal matter, it isn't a matter for moral or ethical tongue clucking, it is between Herman and Gloria Cain.

I'm sorry, but to me you just should not do that without telling your wife. Your opinion may vary, but for me personally this revelation was not a good one for Cain. And I defended Cain up to this point. Cain's admission opens up, for me, doubts about Cain's veracity on all of this.

Just the fact that Cain didn't come clean to his wife on it before he entered the race is not good. What was he thinking? That a lid would be kept on it? You just don't run for the GOP nomination without making sure your closet is in working order. You deal with this kind of stuff BEFORE you run.

I agree a Dem would have this stuff buried instead of trumpeted in the media. But the double standard is well-known and a given. Newt will be shredded for his affairs if he wins the nomination. But in Cain I see a guy who could have done the damage control and due diligence beforehand and either did not understand or did not care enough to take care of such. And that fits into many other indications that he simply does not understand the nature of the gauntlet that he chose to run.

Praying for Herman Cain and his family.

As a conservative I want Herman to stay in the race all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Oh, bullcrap. A man who can lie to his wife (and as Orwell noted, omission is the most powerful form of lie) can lie to the voters as well. It is HIGHLY relevant in my personal calculus about Cain's worthyness to be the GOP nominee. You can choose to ignore it if you wish. I don't.

The woman is a wealth of information. Why is she not telling us how much money? She doesn’t seem to be holding anything back. Could it be because the amount would seem miniscule by Cain’s wealthy standards? Hmmmm......

.how about someone getting the IRS to investigate her and her bank account. I expect this woman never reported any financial "gifts" as income.

The recipient of a gift has no responsibility to report the gift (assuming it is a real gift and not someone "giving" you money as a tax cheat to avoid reporting a wage). The giver has no reporting requirements up to $13,000 per person per year before it starts counting against the lifetime gift/inheritance limits.

I wish I had thought of this before, but if Cain stays in and I hope he does, maybe we could start a mass mailing of physical cards of support to show his family and Mr Cain that we support them and are sympathetic to what is being done to their family.

To paraphrase Clarence Thomas, Cain gave them the hammer to hit him with at this point. This all could have been dealt with before he entered the race. He could have come clean with his wife so she would not get blindsided by him never having told her about giving money to a woman. He didn't. Just what was he thinking? That he could keep this buried, and all that could be insinuated from such? And I defended him against the flood of unsubstantiated allegations. But this is his own words - that he never told his wife about it.
