The latest Rasmussen poll of likely voters which shows Newt Gingrich with a 21-point lead over runner-up Mitt Romney suggests that Gingrich is uniting the Tea Party and establishment wings of the Republican Party. The poll shows that among likely Republican primary voters who do not consider themselves to be members of the Tea Party, Gingrich is winning by 11 percentage points 32 to 21 percent (over Romney). Among those who do consider themselves to be members of the Tea Party, hes winning by 37 points 47 to 10 percent (over Romney and Herman Cain). Among those who arent sure, hes winning by 26 points 42 to 16 percent (over Romney).
Moreover, Gingrich is winning not only among Republicans but also among those independents who are likely to vote in a Republican primary in both cases by a margin of about 2 to 1. Among Republicans, hes winning by a tally of 40 to 18 percent (over Romney). Among those independents who are likely to vote in a Republican primary, hes winning by a tally of 30 to 17 percent (over Ron Paul).
Overall, Gingrich enjoys better than 2-to-1 leads (over anyone) among those who are between the ages of 40 and 64, those who are at least 65 years of age, those who say they are very conservative, those who say they are somewhat conservative, those who are married, those who are Protestant, those who are Evangelical, those who make less than $60,000 a year, those who make more than $100,000 a year, and men. Meanwhile, he enjoys double-digit (but not 2-to-1) leads among those who are single, those who are Catholic, those who make between $60,000 and $100,000 a year, and women.
I am Tea Party and I will vote for Newt.
Newt is an utter repudiation of all that I have considered myself a tea partier for.
No way???
Two possibilities: Bad polling or the Tea Party doesn't view Newt as "establishment".
Which do you think it is?
So now the tea party is for amnesty, “cap and trade” and mandates?
Well, personally, I consider myself 100% anti-beltway, grassroots, mid-American Tea Party in every way.
Newt, with his insider/DC/lobbyist ethics, his bowing to global-warming, his FreddieMac payoff, his personal sleaze, his rather ‘globalist’ centric mindset... um, it strikes a bit of a discordant note with me, in terms of everything I support and value about the Tea Party movement. Oil and water, I’m afraid.
Right on! The neo-cons (and est. media/republicrats) of the Weekly Standard are trying to pat us on the head to be good boys now and put our Herman Cain fantasies to rest; Big daddy is going to let us have Newt! I am on the Cain train and the establishment’s reaction is telling.
We are Tea Party and our favorites were Bachmann and Cain but Newt is a well qualified candidate and we have about settled on him as our candidate. He will do a good job and he will eviscerate Barry in a debate.

I knew our Country probably would not elect someone who would reverse our decline and actually turn our Country around, but I was hopping for someone to at least put on the brakes. Sadly, it doesn't appear that will happen. If Gingrich gets elected and gets his way on amnesty, There will be no way to return our Country to Constitutional greatness.
Not really; Most people I've known in the Tea Party are against out of control spending, more taxes, excess government, and the presidency of Barack Obama.
As far as I know, only Paulbots think that the Tea Party was "founded to fight the policies of the establishment".
Pack it in folks, the Republic is dead, if our choice in November in 2012 is George Herbert Walker Gingrich or Mitt Hussein Obamney.
Right, the Tea Party was not founded to fight the establishment... the Tea Party was founded to reduce the ever-expanding government and stop them from spending our kids money. And it has nothing to do with Republicans or conservatives.
Four more years of Obama and there will be no oil nor water. If you don't vote for whatever candidate runs against Obama, one of his constituent's votes counts. This is probably the most important election in our lifetimes. If you don't think Obama can destroy America in 4 more years, then sit it out, then act surprised when it happens - or hold your nose and vote for a chance for America to recover.
LOL. You realize Palin already said she isn't running right? I could understand holding out through the summer and fall, but even after she's already made it completely clear she isn't running? It's just not going to happen.
He ain’t TEA Party.
