It is not one of the great issues of our day. It pales in comparison to the murder of 60 million babies and spending that has a 15 trillion dollar debt and obligations of 90 trillion. Its most important aspect is security of the border, which is really a security issue and not the issue of the immigrants themselves.
Yes, finally a Republican candidate who is fair to immigrants 58%
If you believe the results of that poll are honest, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Americans have been polled over and over again, about illegal immigration over the last decade. The results consistently bear out that something like 80% want our laws enforced, and for the illegals to return to their countries of origin.
A bum rushed internet poll isn't going to change that.
The primary objective should be the complete enforcement of existing laws, from securing the borders to employer enforcement.
It's a long border. Simply saying that our primary concern should be the border will not get the job done.
I said “other than Romney in my original post”. Yes, we are eating our own. This election will come down to who can take out Obama. I will not vote for Mitt and will sit out. Other than him, I will be behind anyone. I gave and supported Thompson last run and voted for Sarah as well. We have got to get thsi man out of our house. Anyone is better than we have now.
Newt is a lot of things but this world has become very complex. I believe he is the only candidate that can comprehend these very difficult times. Put Cain on the ticket to concentrate on the economy and we have a winner.
It is the primary’s and tensions are high. :)
Then you're a parrot. Squawk!
The bill Newt voted for in 1986 said to secure the border and they promised to enforce the law. Now you say since they haven’t done that we need new laws by the same people who didn’t do what they said they would do the last time.
Insanity.
The laws are already on the books. The border has never been secured. That has to get done. That promise to defend the borders and enforce the law must be kept. Yes an entire generation has been lost but you don’t correct that evil with another mistake.
Correct the original mistake. Change the abortion laws. Protect the unborn. Secure the borders and enforce the law. Allowing illegals to remain here does not protect the unborn. In fact, it gives the democrats, the very ones who don’t care about the unborn, more power. You really are not thinking. Some people will grab hold of anything, including the innocent murdered babies, to manipulate thinking and advance their cause.
I’m absolutely disgusted. This is shameful.
Ok, not bad.
You’re wasting your time with me. Go find some other way to vent and get the attention that you apparently need.
Cain is just making it up as he goes along. He doesn't have a clue how to govern. He didn't sign the pro-life pledge because the thought the President has no authority to "advance legislation." He does not understand politics or history.
He's saying all the stuff you want to hear, but I am not convinced he believes half of what he says.
It is going to be Romney, Perry or Gingrich. And the way everyone wants to destroy Gingrich at this point does nothing but ensure a Romney victory.
Now you’re my psychoanalyst? Projection, much?
I agree depriving them of govt welfare will help...that is a states issue and we see how well that is working for current citizens.
Securing the border will solve a LOT of the problems of illegals already here because once they go home ( and many do go back and forth), many will be gone.
I'm matching wavelengths with you on that point. Yes, Romney IS being intentionally foisted on the Republican electorate. Freepers and other well-informed conservatives see this clearly, and are duly alarmed about it.
In the end, though, the people will be the ones who control whether he gets the nomination or not. It's up to us to make sure that our brothers and sisters on the right are informed enough to give him the thumbs down.
We can't win an election by ourselves. We're going to have to support SOMEONE, or Romney will simply move in the fill the empty space we've left for him.
So what's wrong with supporting Herman Cain? Just because Newt's fallen and can't get up, doesn't mean that Cain won't rise again. It's our choice to make - not the elites.
Immigration/DREAM Act
In his 21st Century Contract with America, Newt pledges to control the southern border by January 1, 2014, waiving any regulations and pushing aside any bureaucracies that get in the way.
Newt believes America must be a nation of laws. The first duty of the federal government is national defense, and it is inexcusable that we havent secured the border. In his 21st Century Contract with America, Newt pledges to control the southern border by January 1, 2014, waiving any regulations and pushing aside any bureaucracies that get in the way.
As we secure the border, we must make an aggressive and serious effort to deport all criminals, gang members, and any other threats to our society as quickly as possible. We must also tap into the ingenuity of the private sector to better validate who is in the United States legally.
Newt opposed the DREAM Act. However, he did agree with part of the legislation which allowed those who came to the United States illegally as children to serve in the U.S. Military to earn their citizenship, just as foreign nationals are today allowed to do the same.
Furthermore, Newt has proposed giving local communities the authority to allow those with long established roots in the neighborhood a legal residency status, but not citizenship. Newt believes local communities are at a better vantage point to determine if those there illegally should stay or go. Under this system, we will send home those with no family or community ties and quickly deport those who have committed criminal and other destructive acts, while providing minimal disruption to families and communities.

Well stated. Anyone that believes Illegal Immigration is a “single issue” has not been paying attention.
None of the candidates have said we do or we should.
Wrong. Herman Cain said in the last debate that the answer is to simply enforce the laws on the books. That approach doesn't preclude dealing with the illegals either collectively, or individually.
The law is the law. It addresses a behavior, which our Congress has deemed illegal. It doesn't matter if one person or millions of individuals have broken that law, it's still illegal under our system.
In my view, you're trying to draw a distinction without a difference. Sorta how the liberals try to get us conservatives to see the 'nuance' in such matters. I don't care if we deal with hundreds at a time, or thousands, or single individuals. They broke our laws, and they need to answer for it, wherever we find them.
“Cain is just making it up as he goes along. He doesn’t have a clue how to govern. “
Even if true, his “making this stuff up” has put him MUCH CLOSER to my values (i.e., keeping America American) than the “geniuses” like Newt and Perry.
You're living in an alternate universe.
So you guys are looking for a mouthpiece, not a leader
Newt, get used to it!
Cain owns the weirdest life position in the history of the issue:
His position appears to be: **feel-free-to-illegally-kill-you-babies-if-you-really-have-to**
Is that a quasi-life position or an anti-life position?
It pretty well disqualifies Cain from consideration by me for the presidency.
