Clean sun power was quickly rejected as unable to produce sufficient power. I doubt wind power was ever considered.

I was working at KSC when we launched the Galileo probe to Jupiter. It created a stink with he enviro=nuts because its power sourst was a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG). We jad proteters at the gate for several days many I think was an OWS prototype held up a big sign that said NO RADIATION IN SPACE!!! . I guess he thought the sun was electric.
