"Empty shelves will inspire future millionaires."

And in the months it takes these millionaires to start-up how many starve?

No the stuff in his basement is just stock for the store that they don’t have room for in the back room of the store.

but when I look at the stacks of toilet paper that stretch to the ceiling, I get warm fuzzy feelings.

I get that same feeling looking at my great big box of seeds, no matter how much my family picks on me for it :)

Remember that this is the first time in American history when people don’t have months worth of food stored. My grandmothers and my mother had large gardens and canned for the winter and spring. I do the same. People are making a run on these items because of that.

inner city? Here in florida the state thinks over 80% of the population lacks even 3 days of food in their home.

I would speculate its true here in GA also. I only have 2 friends who are prepping at all and only one couple that are doing it like we are. Everyone else I know probably has about 1 week of food in the pantry.

Interesting train of thought . I think that this could also be applied to the “occupy” movement , the Democrat party is trying to get that portion of people to that critical point that they are willing to riot in the streets not for Obama to declare martial law but to cause people to attack the other ie those who do not agree with the Democrat party & its agenda of socialism, sodomy & slavery. That way Obama won’t have to declare himself dictator he will be proclaimed leader by the press who are playing cheerleader for the mobs.

Still, complete breakdown, such as the doomsayers envision, is just not in the cards, unless there is a nuclear attack with EMP and/or blast damage in major cities. I rate the probability of this as very low.

People in the former Yugoslavia thought the same.

On my drive home today I seriously pondered the pros and cons of getting a civilian version of the M-4.

I really despise the little black gun, but if that's what trips your trigger, check out a 6.8 Grendel upper.

Friendly country? That depends on where you are geographically located. Canada and Central or South America are good choices. OTOH, you can stick around and battle zombies with the rest of us;)

I agree on the need to think proactively and preventatively.

But let’s be at least honest here; most of society (and both Ds and Rs) and probably many of our own relatives too, are way too short sighted, too cheap, too lazy, too interested in buying the latest in online Facebook gadgetry, and desire to have their head stuck deep in the sand due to Hollywood manipulation of the masses, to ever give a minute of thought to thinking about a means to survive for even a couple days on their own, let alone having to face serious survival. Yeah long paragraph but you get the idea.

75-85 % of Americans live only for today.

I pray to God that the USA never comes to this scenario because it will be a nightmare, even for those that think they have prepared. My advice is to save at least one round for each of your loved ones to have as an easy option to leave in some semblance of peace.

This potential economic disaster was primarily caused by greedy crooked NY bankers and politicians, and rest assured they have have their residences stocked and private armies prepared and have their own getaway place across the ocean that most of us will never be permitted to enter.

Or the Carrington Event of 1859. This massive solar storm disrupted telegraph communications for several days and created powerful auroras that were visible in the Caribbean and were so bright they awakened gold miners in Colorado, who thought it was morning already. And we are now facing the region of the sun that created this storm, and will face it for the next three years.

You haven't got a frickin' clue.

If these guys are so well protected, then why were they being threatened with protests at their homes?

Life is not a Bond movie.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a EMP blast, solar flares, Chinese or other enemy knocking down the electrical control system, communist/socialist riots interrupting basic utility functions, etc. Within days there will be a complete collapse of the major cities, all of the progressive pits of the US, because of a lack of electric. Society is nearly totally dependent upon electric for power, communications, transportation, etc. Within a week, you will not want to be anywhere near a major city. Read William R Forstchen’s novel “One Second After” and substitute any other scenario for the EMP attack, but the results will be the same.

Since you seem convinced on this let me ask you.

Few of us have an extra billion around to hire and stock a private militia but some do. Do you? Most of us taxpayers are restricted from purchasing much beyond a center fire 50cal firearm. These owned private merc armies can purchase virtually anything of military grade and they can even arrest you and take your firearms. You’ll be at their mercy. Check out Katrina/NRA.

The only country that has done well in this 2008 - 2011 scenario of financial corruption has been Iceland. Yep the country that first scared us and our lackey pols into taking care of NYC bankers first. The people in Iceland voted to force their political leaders to take care of the country problems first and not the private banks. We didn’t have that luxury of referendum under the crony controlled leadership of the USA under Bush, Paulson, Obama and Geither.

We should have required the TBTF banks to face liquidation and bankruptcy and then taken care of the USA itself. We should take care of the sovereign first and screw the private bankers should be our motto. However in the USA the politicians forced the people to take care of the banksters first because the banksters took care of them.

The only con of M4 clones is the anemic 5.56 cartridge, which is so underpowered it is illegal for deer hunting in many states. Every responsible citizen needs a serious rifle. Do your research carefully. There is much information and disinformation on the net. Talk to people who actually own the weapon you are considering.

That's funny, because we killed a buttload of Taliban with that round. 5.56 is a mankiller from my experience.

Provide one piece of evidence "bankers" are maintaining private armies, and I'll withdraw my insinuations about your tenuous grasp on reality.

Really, you belong on an "Occupy" picket line. Tossing around gratuitous assertions, with only interpretive evidence, isn't going to win you many converts around here.

I tend to agree with you. Here in Florida we’ve seen supermarkets stripped bare during hurricane season - in an economic collapse, not sure when or if they’d be restocked. People in the Soviet Union dealt with this reality for decades. We now have to hitch a ride with them into space. I don’t think it’s out of the question we could see a break down in our food supply if the economy collapses.
