I was only 15 in 1994, when Newt Gingrich experienced his last great moment. (Well, before this one, where hes surging in the polls, with his campaign having figured out how to run for President.) So I dont really remember Newts glory days.
I have interviewed him on many occasions, however, as far back as 2006 and as recently as last month, and every time we talk, Im struck by how smart he is. Despite that, I cant get past the nagging voice in my head telling me that no matter how good he would be at running the country, he doesnt deserve to.
Call me a square, but Newts past mistakes occupy both columns: character and politics. From his ugly romantic entanglements to his flirtation with environmentalism to his questionable relationship with Freddie Mac, bad decisions and lapses in judgment have been too frequent for a man of such obvious intelligence.
And yet, for all his mistakes, Newt remains startlingly unembarrassed, which makes those mistakes even less palatable. Though arrogance and a lack of shame characterize Capitol Hill, Im suspicious of a guy whos had so many public errors, and is so untroubled by them.

Of course that is the underlying message here--no one, not one candidate, not one poster here-- has a plan that will succeed in the real world better than what Newt proposed. If anybody has one I'd be all for hearing about it, but I'm not holding my breath given the local talent around here tonight.

And what about benefits, entitlements... especially medical costs as they age. It adds trillons..
No, I think they have to go back..

You are right. I wish every American could come with me for one day to tour the large urban hospital I work in.
If ANY illegal is here, there are 10 more family members here “visiting.” Believe me, they come here and instantly get sick on their visits. Same for the ancient village dwelling elders of the H1B visa holders. Grandma and Grandma always get brought in for SOMETHING or other. Then the case managers scramble to figure out what to do because they NEVER, EVER have insurance. And you think they’re just coming from El Salvador? Try China, India, Africa, Ethiopia . . . and any muslim country you can think of.
And believe me, these people want it all ...grandfather needs a new HEART, a new LIVER, a lung transplant ..or is all of a sudden now on long-term dialysis, is in need of long-term rehab, long-term hospitalization in the ICU.
Many of them manage to make it onto the Medicaid roles and just stay there — while on disability or welfare as well.
We are being taken for a RIDE in this country by non-taxpaying parasites from multiple countries. What’s to stop the “red card” crowd from demanding the same?
And we haven’t even gotten to the education issues yet.
OUT, OUT, OUT, all of them! Stick to the rule of law. So far Cain is the ONLY one, perhaps along with Bachman, Paul, Santorum who would say the same.
Americans just need to buckle down, turn off the TV, and vote for the MOST CONSERVATIVE candidate — or we are TOAST.
What I think I would like to hear the candidates say..NOW..is that this issue, complex as it is, shouldn't be rushed in the heat of a presidential campaign. It deserves serious thought and consideration. However, ALL the candidates commit to Perry's pledge that within 12 months of taking office, the bordewr will be SECURE..Washington is broken...so before we, the peopel, start to trust you again on something as willing to consider how to deal with the problem of long term illegals, you, government, show us that you can do one simple thing....PROTECT OUR BORDERS....after you do that, then we can look at other matters.
BTW..To both of you, a happy and joyous Thanksgiving..
None would be offered citizenship except those who volunteered and served in the military, which is the case now for foreign enlistees. The only "permanent" residents would be those here under the 1986 amnesty umbrella, permanent already, but who never became citizens, and who would get the "red card" for employment purposes.
By becoming serious about it, and taking action, he would also no doubt stimulate an increase in "self-deportation" as individuals realized the game was about up, and went home.
Nothing there to get hysterical about that I can see.
"1. Put a time limit on welfare for American citizens. 3 months and you're done. When that time is up and you don't have a job, you go to work in the fields and every other job that 'Americans won't do' that illegals have taken. You will EARN your keep. Eliminate those jobs and illegals have no working incentive to be here." --------- Let me get this straight, you want to take the ailing mother with four kids off welfare and force her to pluck chickens in a Tyson's slaughter house. And you actually think this might ever happen.
2. "Give all illegals 30 days to get out. During that time, all States are given the power to protect their sovereignty and empower all law enforcement to do ID checks when someone is pulled over." -------- Ok. What about those states and cities and counties and towns who don't have the money, manpower or even the desire to do so? Where will these municipalities house them? Who will feed them? (Hey, we can use those FEMA/DHS camps.) Do you keep the parents together with the kids or are they split up? Please answer all.
"At the end of 30 days, all illegals who are captured are sent packing on the next available way out... --------- Cool we can "capture" them, just like in Planet of the Apes. Where are you going to send them? What if Mexico doesn't accept theirs? Do you build detention camps at the borders or drive across real fast and kick them out while nobody's looking? What about those who are from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Russia, Israel, Korea, China, India, Pakistan, Viet Nam, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Nigeria, Sweden, Morocco, Australia, Finland, Brazil.....
Sorry, but I asked for a detailed plan not a jingo-istic wet dream.
But Buzzard, the independent and moderate votes are overrated, who needs them? Truth is, Gingrich is no idiot and his well-stated opinion on illegal immigration, will help him more than hurt him or he wouldn’t have said it.
And you clearly have comprehension problems since I said details later. But I’m not surprised. You’re amnesty lover and have put forth no ideas of your own and rely on liberal platitudes for your escape. IOW, pissant off lower.
Do your own damned search, fool. And I don’t believe you ever liked Palin either because you would know all about his interview as it has been quoted over and over again.
Onyx, would you please post to this moron the exact words of Palin on BOR when she said ‘deport illegals ‘ as well as saying Reagan was wrong on amnesty? Seems someone doesn’t believe Palin said it.

Nope, you painted yourself into a corner with those truly silly and utterly un-doable "ideas" about rounding up all the illegals and dropping them off at Mexico's doorstep so now, in the manner to which so many freepers devolve, you try to turn it around by lying.
Nice talking to you.

She does everything she can to squirm out of answering the question of what to do with the millions already here then says...yes, have them register with the federal government so that they can contribute and work.
She also told Telemundo the same thing in a 2008 interview.
Have a blessed evening.
Uh huh
Sorry, honey, but all those ideas ARE doable. You are a perfect example why illegal immigration will never be solved because you dismiss any ideas that touch taboo subjects.
Everything should be on the table when it comes to protecting our country from an even bigger illegal invasion. EVERYTHING.
Here rinny - You called me a moron, you stupid big mouth ***hole - spreading lies you can’t back up and asking everyone else to run and fetch. Here chump - eat your words.

“What is Bachmann’s plan? Quickly now. How will she solve the problem?”
For one thing, turning off the magnets that draw them here, like amnesty.
