Defense is not a sacred cow to Republicans. It’s men and women who fight and die for us. It’s the families of those men and women who sacrifice more than people know to support their troops. It’s disabled vets. It’s PEOPLE. You know that’s what they will cut first if they cut “defense”. More down sizing and more of our troops on extended tours of duty while their families hold it together back home. Makes me sick when people view defense without considering the brave men and women who will be affected by the Democrats wet dream of gutting our military.

You sound like the people who want to cut school budgets by knocking off the band and sports programs because they think that will change the public’s mind about eliminating a bunch of supervisors. The Defense Budget could start with bringing home all the troops in Germany, Korea and Japan to defend against Russia without harming the troops one bit. There is fat everywhere in Washington.

A classic red herring that is always disappointing when conservatives use it. A part of the defense budget is rather bloated and could easily be criticized as being neither necessary for our national defense nor for supporting our troops. I mean, how does one decide that countries like Germany require a US military base? Remember, the Pentagon is a massive govt. bureaucracy, and often makes really crappy decisions which are well removed from both public interest and support for the troops. Claiming that cutting the Pentagon budget is necessarily anti-military seems to be a logical fallacy, especially without sufficient justification. Perhaps you could provide some wisdom to this effect?

I never used the word “defense” and for good reason. The difference between Pentagon spending to police the world (the bulk of the military budget) and actual defense is like the difference between night and day. Our vast spending to be global cop only undermines the true national defense envisioned by the founders.

BTW, Obama doesn’t have “wet dreams” about cutting the military. Google Leon Panetta if you don’t believe me. His comments in the last week show that Panetta is a shill for what Ike (who should know!) aptly called the military-industrial complex.
