A Georgia factory worker claims in a federal lawsuit that he was fired after he refused to wear a 666 sticker he feared would doom him to eternal damnation.
Billy E. Hyatt claims he was fired from Pliant Corp., a plastics factory in northern Georgia near Dalton, after he refused to wear a sticker proclaiming that his factory had been accident-free for 666 days. That number is considered the "mark of the beast" in the Bible's Book of Revelation describing the apocalypse.
Hyatt, who said he's a devout Christian, had worked for the north Georgia plastics company since June 2007 and like other employees wore stickers each day that proclaimed how long the factory had gone without an accident.
But he grew nervous in early 2009 as the number of accident-free days crept into the 600s. As the company's safety calendar approached day 666, Hyatt said he approached a manager and explained that wearing it would force him "to accept the mark of the beast and to be condemned to hell." He said the manager assured him he wouldn't have to wear the number.

I did not list my real license plate. The 666 part is correct but not the rest.
I’m not that stupid.
Gees why so paranoid. My real name and address is all over the net associated with my handle, anyone could find it if they wanted.Nobody is gonna hunt you down because of a LP number. Thats just plain silly.
I was just addressing the concern of F15. I was not particularly concerned about the matter but I thought it best to not provide my real tag number in any event.
Call me silly, call me paranoid. I’ve been called one helluva lot worse.
Or cut his finger and gone home early, thus resetting the "Days without a work-loss injury" counter and giving himself a couple more years to worry about it ;-)
More good time, feel good, team boosting, fun and games safety mantra crap. More nanny state crap.
You gotta wear a sticker EACH day for safety? How stupid.
We did away with common sense and leadership in the workplace didn’t we? You can sell some of these kid “managers” just about anything... a lot of them are nothing but cheerleaders.
I wouldn’t wear the stupid sticker on ANY day!

No, stolen from another freeper and stashed on my hard drive over seven years ago.
Couldn't find the proper attribution earlier.

Amazing but true.
The number 666 is NOT the mark of the beast.
In fact, when that time comes, we Christians will see that the number 666 is helpful, not harmful.
But the only way to know that would be to actually READ the Bible, rather than to listen to and believe fear mongers and false teachers.
I hope he wins a fortune!
While I think forcing the workers wear the stickers every day is a rather silly and over the top policy, I very seriously doubt he was fired for that alone. As I said before, Im guessing Billy had a long history of being a bit of a wack job and screw up at work and this was either the last straw or Billy was fired for a completely different reason and hes just trying to get some cash on the ole lawsuit gravy train better than winnin da lottery doncha know.
If the companys HR department did indeed fire him for the sole (or soul :) ,) reason of not wearing the sticker (no matter what number was on it) and made derogatory comments about his religion, then the companys HR department needs to be replaced. If Billing was wrongfully terminated, then hes IMO entitled to back wages and nothing more and certainly not a fortune as you say. Thats part of whats wrong with our country and our legal system; people think that anything and everything that offends them is grounds for lawsuit and mega big bucks for their pain and suffering. I for one hope it comes out that the company was right to fire Billy for reasons unrelated to what hes claiming and that he doesnt get a dime.
.it is a BAD number
So what if by sheer coincidence your paycheck for a weeks wages came to $666.00? Would you refuse your paycheck, tear it up, ask the payroll department to make it another amount? If you came to me with such a request, Id have to restrain myself from laughing at you and no, I wouldnt reissue your paycheck.
BTW I have a nephew who was born on 6/6/76 at 3:33 AM. We like to kid him about being the Anti-Christ but we are, just kidding.
That’s as stupid as not having a 13th floor in a building!
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
So, we will only be able to buy and sell if we have one of three different things: the mark, the name, or the number. The number is 666, and knowing it will enable us to eat (buy & sell) without taking the mark. Taking the mark would condemn us.
During the Tribulation you will receive the Mark of the Beast and be damned forever or you will be killed and live forever. It is that cut-and-dried. The Scripture is direct and plain.
I highly doubt that the Pliant Corp, now a fully owned subsidiary of Berry Plastics Corp is a Satanic corporation marking workers with the Sign of the Beast in order to damn those workers to eternal damnation. I have a feeling that they are much more interested in promoting plant safety; not only because they dont want workers to be injured on the job for the workers own safety but also because avoidable and unnecessary work place injuries cost companies a lot of money. Sure the sticker thing may sound stupid but at the company where I work, we take safety very seriously.
Now if Berry Plastics Corp made their workers wear a 666 sticker enclosed within a Pentagram every day of the year, you might have a valid point. But the day before the sticker said 665 Days Without An Accident and the very next day after said 667 Days Without An Accident.
But he grew nervous in early 2009 as the number of accident-free days crept into the 600s. As the company's safety calendar approached day 666
Yea, Barry was growing increasingly nervous. Sounds to me like someone more obsessed over numerology and superstition than someone interested in doing a good job and doing it safely.
The more I think about it, he needed to be fired and I hope he loses his stupid and baseless lawsuit against this company. Think about it; if he wins mega bucks, what does that do to this companys bottom line? Well perhaps they wont be able to expand and hire new workers or give bonuses or pay raises to their existing hard working employees all because the company had to shell out big bucks to some fool who thinks that 666 days without an accident somehow marks him for eternal damnation.
Good morning. The frost is on the pumpkin at my house this morning but the sky is clear and the sun is out. Only God can make such beauty.
I hope that the hearts of every one of His children are in the right place today because God wants us all to love one another to reflect His glory.
I know this doesn’t sound like a reply to your post to me, but neither did your response resemble any answer to mine of 52. Let us all have a united hug today on Free Republic.
I apologize if my reply gave you the impression I was attacking you. I was not.
I was asking you why you think 666 is a bad number (your words) and offered scriptural evidence that is is instead a helpful number that will allow us to eat (buy & sell) during that period of time without suffering eternal condemnation.
:o) I didn’t think think you were attacking me at all.
And your including scripture was good.
I just wanted to say what I did, though it didn’t have a diredt relation to your post. Think of it as my Suncay morning prayer.
