My grand son is in 6 th. grade and at his school he is sometimes assigned the job of scraping trays after lunch, I'm not clear on whether this is a punishment for some infraction or what but when he does it, his lunch is "free".

In our schools you can volunteer for that duty and since all lunches are free they don’t get anything but an attaboy. My granddaughter used to volunteer just because she is like that, I don’t think my grandson ever has.

When I was in 5th grade, it was standard for students to assist the lunch crew.
