Newt Gingrich’s Greek Vacation Becomes Campaign Talking Point

SHEFFIELD, Iowa – With the political winds shifting in his favor, Newt Gingrich is turning an incident that almost unraveled his entire presidential bid earlier this summer into a campaign trail talking point.

Gingrich, whose luxury Greek vacation in June led to the mass resignations of several members of his campaign staff, now says he used the overseas trip to talk with Europeans about the banking crisis there.

The former House Speaker told a crowd in West Des Moines on Monday, that he listened to the Greek people talk about their economic woes and even noted that his observations about the state of the global economy were “very much influenced” by his Mediterranean sojourn.

“I visited Greece in June I talked to people about what they were faced with in Greece. And I listened to them and I tried to understand they face a crisis of enormous proportions,” Gingrich said. “The Greeks can’t pay off their loans at half the value. This is an enormous collapse of their quality of life in this category.”

The Greeks hate the Germans. I know, I’ve been there many times. To get that feel you would have to talk to the natives there esp the old people.

I was at a Greek Island a few years back. The instruction for checking out on the back of the hotel door were in German and English, NOT Greek.

Secondly, it is Newt’s nature to be a listener contrary to what you think, that he just made up the story.

I never said such a thing, nor do I think that. Obviously, he talked to people while he was on vacation.

What I said was this gradiose spin about learning grand lessons about the global economy is both embarrassing and insulting.

I have no problem with NEWT and wife taking a luxury vacation, and I am not jealous of anyone who can. Wish I could.

On top of the ease with which his readiness and shallow command of the issues can be challenged, Cain will be painted as the most anti-woman candidate (serial sexual harasser, no respect for women in power--'princess pelosi', no abortion in any case ever, etc.) in history.

He'll guarantee Obama's reelection, sweep Pelosi back into power and maybe increase Dem's hold on the Senate.
