I agree with it in spirit but if he doesn't have the authority it's all a moot point.
Congress will never go along with it any more than they will ever allow a flat tax or term limits.
Either of those would cripple their power and I don't think that'll happen in my life time.

Ahh but that's where the power of the bully pulpit. People like Palin and DeMint come in because every two years there is a new election.
If the President announces a 50% pay cut for himself until the budget is balanced, that will put plenty of pressure on Congress. Then during elections a major campaign point for every new Congressman would be a 50% pledge until the budget is balanced.
Geeze that might force a vote on a balanced budget amendment just so they can keep their pay.
On Perry's site he has graphs for the American median income (49000) vs. Congress (175000)

It certainly won't happen if We The People don't make it happen. I'm not giving in to the notion that it's futile to put forth the effort. I have faith in the American spirit.
