Given advances in technology, the current educational model is hopelessly obsolete and obscenely inefficient. Of course, as long as it functions primarily as state-run day care, it won't change.

And teacher certifications are just another subsidy for Big Education, along with higher pay for useless advanced degrees. Half of the students in my graduate courses were elementary school teachers who wanted a raise.

Stop using things like this to further your “bubble” ideology.

The idea that you would think that this example, coupled with the miriad of other examples, of the dangers of delegating the authority and responsibility of raising your children to the state is somehow a superior situation to homeschooling is simply shocking to me. You are obviously on the wrong forum.

Do a few minutes of research.

Adult former homeschoolers are far more likely to be married and stay married, graduate from college, be employed, be in the professions, be volunteers in the community, vote, and so few are on welfare that they can't measure it.

Wow! We should have a nation of such ‘bubbles” of flaming success!

Homeschooling is by far the best way to rear a child to emotionally well-grounded and successful adulthood. Yes, some children will need institutionalization for their schooling. Some parents are to stupid, too lazy , too ill-educated, too sick , too poor, too ignorant, too criminal, too disorganized, too dizzy, too mentally ill, too selfish, and/or too materialistic to homeschool.

It is a shame. We need orphanages too but no one is claiming this is the best way to rear a child.

If you think the above is harsh, what response do you expect when you make statements like “home college” or “bubble ideology” ?

you get all the commentary about the WHOLE school system is whacked.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Please take note of the naughty teacher and other sexual abuse school threads. In nearly every instance the outrage occurs in a government school that would be considered “good” or more than adequate.

Next....ALL government K-12 schools in this nation, in their curriculum and textbooks, are godlessly secular in their worldview. Any child who attends swims in this sea of government godless secularism. If you think I am wrong then I would appreciate the link to the exception.

Finally....All government K-12 schools in this nation are socialist. Merely by attending there is the danger that the child will become comfortable with this socialist and tuition-free entitlement. If government can use its threat of police action to force citizens to pay for socialist schooling and force students to use it, then why not vote to use that government force for lots of other socialist goodies?

Again...If you know of an exception to socialist funded socialist K-12 schools please send me a link.

I would definitely do away with the standard K through 12 model of schooling. I’m not sure it was ever a good idea.

My great grandmother graduated from a 1 room schoolhouse in the 9th grade and got a better education than I did in the modern schools. She could recite the constitution and declaration of independence, spoke fluent latin and do complex algebra. All learned from a teacher who probably had zero certification.

"What is not alright, in my book is the condescending attitude among some home schoolers and private schoolers, accusing others of "not caring about their children enough", to the point of calling it child abuse for allowing children to go to public schools."

Not a "condescending attitude" GB, downright abusive is what it is.

I've encountered some of these so-called "conservatives" and let me tell you, they are some of the most vile and vicious people you'll ever come across. They spare no effort to rip the the spawn of satan to shreds because he dares to permit his children to attend a public school.

Doesn't matter one whit what you tell them about how different your school is, you're simply evil for even considering the practice.

How about one simple change that would cost nothing?

Suggestion: Let any child of any age take the GED or similar private exam. If they pass award them an official high school diploma from their local high school.

How about another change that would cost nothing?

Suggestion: Move all sports, theater, cheer leading. art, choir, band, etc. to the county departments of recreation. Immediately gone from the K-12 schools are all the students who are only taking up space in these buildings because the government has a monopoly on minor league sports and other community cultural activities.

Yeah I quit school at the start of my junior year and got my GED before my class even started their senior year. I was a factory foreman by the time my classmates finished school and came looking for work.

Are your local socialist schools godlessly secular in their worldview? Do the students who attend them swim in a sea of secular curriculum and textbooks?

Are your local socialist schools a socialist entitlement? Is there the risk that the children who attend can learn that if government can give them socialist schooling it also has the power to give them lots of other socialist goodies?

How can this be “good”????? Huh?

It’s not keeping your kids in a bubble, it’s exposing them to the real world while protecting them until they are big enough to stand a chance against predators.

I just don’t know what I would do with your ALL-KNOWING WISDOM THAT IS OH SO MUCH GREATER THAN MINE!!

THAT YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT NOT ONLY MY FAMILY, BUT OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AS WELL, IS, WELL IT’S JUST ABSOLUTELY WONDEROUS!!!

I KNEEL AT YOUR FEET OH GREAT, INSIGHTFUL SAGE!!

FORGIVE ME FOR EVEN DARING TO THINK I COULD ACT AS A FREE INDIVIDUAL. MAKING MY OWN DECISIONS WITHOUT BEING VILIFIED AS EVIL FOR DOING SO.

MY MISTAKE, I WILL MAKE PENNANCE SOME HOW, I PROMISE!

IOW, thanks for proving my point. You don’t know jackshit about our situation and yet feel that you are the self appointed nanny telling me how to raise my children.

Conservative my ass.

You’re a jackbooted thug trying to imply that others have no right (are evil or not conservative) to decide to send their kids to public school.

Sad to say, I’m not surprised.

They should have their teaching certs revoked and never be allowed to teach or work in school again.

Let them get a job in the real world and work for a living like the rest of the world does.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

The school we are sending our sons to still has a skeet shooting team!

Can you imagine a student bringing a 12 gauge to school? LOL!

Let’s see, which is the bigger bubble....a child exposed to normal circumstances and events, with his family and/or peers, or a child stuck in a kiddie prison (even a small country one) with 28 other 10 year olds all day, every day....
hmmm, i can’t figure it out.....

I’m being sarcastic, what’s your excuse?

Unfortunately it seems to be increasingly common. Our schools are starting to resemble the nazi schools where “weakness” was crushed one way or the other. The bullying seems to be selective in the sense that a “gay kid” will get the full defense of the school administration but an openly conservative kid is a legitimate target.

Here in Michigan a while back we had the case of the kid who became a target of a teacher because the student wore something with a confederate flag on it.

Completely irresponsible. The least the school district could have done was to send the letter with some condoms attached. After all, if they are going to do it anyway....////ssss

I guess you’re not familiar with wintertime and her point of view.

The entire US is socialist. And the nose under the tent is that started this all is the “public school”.

I didn’t know that conservatives LOVE socialism. But there it is. You and many others take the fact that the public school system is socialist and any one who tries to point this out and what it means, well, watch out.

And this is the very reason that we as a country will go down. The middle class has been bought off with their own tax dollars for something of lesser value and ruins the foundations of this country’s sense of freedom.

Freedom is not free. It costs. And the more the “middle class” stays asleep, the BETTER the left loves it and gets away with the KILLING of America.
