Interestingly, the incident cited in the article was homosexual in nature. A boy rubbing his penis against another boy’s penis. Sounds like he needs some more public school instruction on the correct way to be queer.
Stop using things like this to further your “bubble” ideology.
Protecting children from sexual assault by not putting them in situations in which they are not likely to be sexually assaulted is not *bubble* raising our children.
We homeschooled our three for a total of 12 years. I graduated my oldest from highschool in 11th grade. For her senior year she went to the local public high school (in a small God's country community), and attended a BIG name private secular university entering in their honors program.
Likewise for my other two. The vast majority of their schooling was homeschooling with some public schooling in highschool before going on to secular private big name universities also entering in their honors programs.
There is a world of difference between sending a 10 year old child to a hell hole government school and a 18 year old well grounded in their faith to a secular university.
Nobody is advocating protecting the child forever. It's hardly bubble mentality to homeschool a child in a bad situation anymore than it is to make the decision to live in a protected flyover country community where it is safer to send the child to the public school. Could it not also be considered that moving to a God's country flyover community also protecting your child from the *real* world is *bubble* mentality?
When we homeschooled, we lived in a bad welfare community. There were drug busts in the house next door, one family's children were removed from their home when it was discovered that the mother's boyfriend was molesting her 5 year old daughter, there were a couple kids from different families who were vying for being voted most likely to grow up to be a serial killer.
Hell would freeze over before sending my kids to public schools in those situations. It was like living an episode of COPS. We'd watch COPS on TV and laugh because we recognized all the situation and types of behavior the people on that show displayed.
We moved out of there to a new community which is like living on a different planet, like the situation you find yourself in. It was then that we decided to send them to the local SMALL public high school.
Did we protect our children from probable abuse? I have no doubt. Were they sheltered and raised in a bubble? Not on your life. Even just living in that community gave them an education that they haven't forgotten.
I KNOW that you would never advocate sending a child into certain situations within the Catholic church because of the sexual abuse that has been exposed in it, yet I would never dream of accusing you of bubble raising your children for protecting them that way.
If you have a public school that you have that kind of confidence in and feel comfortable sending your child to, have at it. More power to you.
But don't disparage those of us who for very legitimate reasons advocate homeschooling for the protection of our children until you live in the situations that some of us have lived in. You don't, can't, know until you've been there.
FWIW, my oldest is now living out on her own finishing up grad school, my second is engaged and the youngest is still in college. They are all walking with the Lord, strong in their faith, knowing what they believe and why they believe it.
Yes, we protected them when they were young and they needed it. It was our God given responsibility as their parents. They are adults now and we have let go and they are doing fine.
Makes sense to me. I’d also work hard to get everyone involved in community fundraising.
Why not just make donations to the scholarship fund of a worthy local private school?
This would more directly help some families who don't have the means on their own to escape the public school cesspool.
As liberals accelerate the breakdown of our society through sexually and spiritually attacking our children, either parents who understand what is going on create a “bubble” for their sons and daughters (like Lot did), or they get to deal with a broken human being who has been abused, raped and ravished as a child.
To you, that may be alright. To most parents, that is an unacceptable state of being for their children. Homeschooled children go to college, by the way. They are far more stable in their own idenity and truth than the poor mentally and/or physically abused animals of liberalism’s herd are. You can compare it to the European explorer visiting the jungle where human sacrifice is central to the natives’ customs. The Europeans were not the weak ones even though they came from the “bubble” of civilization.
Public education has ruined this nation. If your children are in public schools, you've helped.

It IS indeed all those things...but what is missing?
It’s almost as if we’ve all been conditioned to NOT SEE what is glaringly obvious: homosexuality. man-boy love. Pederasty.
It worries me that this thought even occurred to me, that is:
Do you think, deep-down, many will breathe a sigh of RELIEF...if a female child victim is brought forth?
That way, the homosex part can be further obscured.

One of my most vivid memories was my mother telling me to stay away from so-in-so down the street and sort of insisting I stay away from the much older sibling of my closest friend at the time. The two older boys (one Catholic and one Protestant and both of them private-schooled) attempted to have some younger boys in our neighborhood service them. I’m sure this was due to the influence of the internet, tv, public schools, etc. /sarcasm (this happened almost 40 years ago.)
Some of our local schools hold very successful barbecue meals, with thousands of customers. (I’m not that fond of barbecue or Brunswick stew, myself ;-).
Such anger at government schools, when the catholic schools had the priests as perps and they covered it up for decades by placing the pedo priests in new parishes to prey on new innocent children. So please stop acting so self righteous.

I know I'll receive flames for this but the two children in my care go to a very good school here in "fly over country", this is central Illinois, conservative country in a blue state. My wife and I are very much involved in their education. They occasionally wear their, "I love Jesus" Tee shirts and are not sent home for it.
The first day I walked into their school, I saw some elementary school art on the wall, the first thing I noticed was a poster that had a huge W.W.J.D. on it and in case somebody didn't know what that meant it was also stated in parentheses, "What Would Jesus Do", that poster stayed there the whole year.
My daughter teaches in a public school, high school level in Missouri, her politics are very similar to my own, don't call her a liberal to her face whatever you do. She too has to deal with that "broad brush".
Want to hear another broad brush? I'm a retired union member. Never mind that I have never voted for a democrat in my entire life, never. How many of the broad brushers here can truthfully say that?
There are decent public schools in this country, you won't find many of them in N.Y.C., Los Angeles, Chicago or many other metro areas. My kids are in the 6th grade, I help with home work and I already have to review their text books to relearn some things that I originally learned 50 to 60 years ago. Proper grammar and punctuation is just as difficult for me now as it was back then. I do not consider myself qualified to teach and who knows me, better than I do.
Home schooling is fine for those who want to do it and are able. Private school is fine too for those who can afford it but the reality is that it is very expensive. The nearest private school to me is Lutheran and tuition is $6,500 per year, per student, an unattainable amount for some who are struggling just to get by. What is not alright, in my book is the condescending attitude among some home schoolers and private schoolers, accusing others of "not caring about their children enough", to the point of calling it child abuse for allowing children to go to public schools.
Humans need a lot of supervision. A lot of them really just... have something wrong with them.
BTW, I have seen worse bubble ideology from private Christian school parents.
I know more than one family where the parents sent their children to Christians schools to protect them and have REFUSED to pay for any college but a private Christian college.
The children are going to public college on their own dime because their parents won’t pay for it.
Around here, those are usually for medical expenses of a child in the immediate neighborhood or an injured firefighter.
Even "conservatives" like their middle-class welfare.
Graybeard58 has acknowledged that the govt education monopoly has eliminated any market for low-cost education, so OF COURSE most middle-class Americans have no choice but to use the substandard government product.
We shouldn't make them feel bad about it. Lift up, not tear down!
There is a lot of crap I would eliminate from public schools to save money. We don’t need computers in every classroom and I’m not sure kids need computer sciences classes because they’ll learn that stuff at home anyway. I’d dump social studies in favor of geography.
The over reliance on teacher certification is a scam in my opinion. Teachers constantly need more certifications which means they constantly need money to pay other teachers to teach them. That was one of the things I liked about Duncan Hunter in the 08 race. He said screw certification and put people who know how to do things in the classrooms. We’re building a considerable pool of retired astronauts who could teach various physics and astronomy related courses.
