Fourth Grade Sex Assault Shocks Parents (Gov Schools strike again!)
Fox Philly ^ | 11/15/2011

Posted on 11/16/2011 4:24:01 AM PST by surroundedbyblue

After allegations of a sexual assault by three Philadelphia fourth graders, parents want to know why district officials were late in telling them about the incident.

Parents also want to know why the information was so vague about what happened at Bryant Elementary School in West Philadelphia, and the incident has the school district under fire.

The details are shocking and involve graphic language.

A letter was sent home with students, revealing allegations of "inappropriate conduct" among several fourth graders and an announcement that, from now on, students must travel to the lavatories in pairs.

Geneva Walker says the letter was just vague enough to be frightening.

"I was shocked. My mouth dropped and I was like, I can't believe this. You know, and then I'm walking out the schoolyard reading the letter and I'm hearing other parents talking and I'm like- are you serious? This is really happening in the school?"

When will parents ever learn to not even put their kids in the cesspools of indoctrination??

My guess is that the school failed to notify parents in a timely fashion because, as we see from the Penn State scandal, there are alot of people out there who don't really have a problem with child sex.

Hmm, "Philadelphia Fourth Graders", probably all 17-years old.

Third grade is long and hard on those Philadephia kids!

I guess you expect parents to home college their children and then home work their children and then home retirement their children.

Stop using things like this to further your “bubble” ideology.

there are alot of people out there who don't really have a problem with child sex

First they get the children involved in doing sex acts on each other, and then they reason, "Well, if they're doing it anyway, what difference does it make how old the football coach is?"

Once a society accepts sexual immorality, there are few if any logically-defensible limits.

Why don’t you take your head out of your chute & see what’s going on in the world around you? “Things like this” are becoming all too common. But you wouldn’t notice - you’re too busy Catholic bashing on FR.

I never advanced a bubble ideolgy. I simply think parents should demand moer accountability from gov schools in any way they can: home school, private school, running for school board, etc. Hell, most people don’t even attend school board meetings in their districts, then are shocked when things like this happen.

Stop using things like this to further your “bubble family farm” ideology.

There, fixed it.

First, calling out systemic child-rape and its cover-up is not Catholic bashing. One would assume, based on your first post, that you too would be concerned for the welfare of children but I guess you just cherry pick articles like this to further your bubble ideology.

Not all public schools are like this. I attended a horrific inner city school but will be sending my son to a public school in a very small county in God’s country. Flyover country is very different from inner city schools and there are still God fearing parents who are involved with their children’s education.

One day, your child will have to leave the nest and be exposed to people with different morals and ideology. You can only keep them in a bubble so long.

My point is simple, put your broad brush away.

If I were king.

I’d send all the kids home with the message that there will be no school till I can get all the parents together in the auditorium to set up a series of meetings on the future of education.

Among my suggested reforms. I’d continue to use the building but treat every classroom as individual private schools. Costs for building maintenance would be shared and those with lesser means would be expected to offset costs by volunteering to do simple maintenance and custodial duties. All regular staffing would be contractors and volunteers. The school board would consist only of paying members of the school. All parents would be required to attend a minimum number of school board meetings of face a small financial penalty.

This wont make the national news.

The assault was homosexual in nature and in a inner-city school.

ya know i really grow tired of every time something happens in a school, you get all the commentary about the WHOLE school system is whacked. my kids go to decent public schools and they are all in good athletic programs.

these things happen in lower class and on rare occasion upper class schools, from time to time. that does not mean that all people should pull all of their kids out of all the public schools. that's stupid. it would be IMPOSSIBLE!

why don't we get the thought in our heads that everyone knows home schooling is an option. private school is an option... but to say the same thing each and every time something happens in the million schools there are, that they are all bad, is boorish to say the least. why don't you say something about the perpetrator or something?? why regulate the many because the actions of a few???

I would also support an optional school tax for non parents. You might be surprised at how many non parents like myself would be OK with paying a reasonable tax to prevent the dumbing down of America.

Instead of an oxymoronic “optional tax,” call it a charitable donation in support of education for the less-well-off. I make contributions to private education, in spite of paying all my own children’s educational costs plus taxes to support the county schools we don’t use. I’m sure others would, too, if the institutions demonstrated results.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Just so you know, while there are some homeschoolers that isolate themselves into their own families, these represent a very small minority. The vast majority have nearly as many outside-of-the home activities as everyone else. And many of those activities involve people beyond one or two years of their age. Even adults of varying morals and ideology.

Sometimes I wish for a quiet day or evening at home with the entire family.

I'm well aware of homeschooler activities with other children. It doesn't negate the fact that most of the time these are with folks of the same bubble.

I used to feel the same way but about a year ago my waning support of the public school system finally collapsed under the weight of multiple issues.

Finding out that teachers in some high schools were handing out “We are one” pledge forms to support collective bargaining. My 12 year old niece talking to me like a child as she explained that I had been taught wrong and couldn’t be expected to understand the real world.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (CBS) – A teacher at a suburban Christian school has been charged with a felony, after he was fired for allegedly masturbating behind a podium while teaching class.

As CBS’s Dana Kozlov reports, Schaumburg police said he might have been doing it for the past 10 years or more.

Paul LaDuke, 75, has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child. LaDuke has been a math teacher at the school for 26 years.
