Newt Gingrich is winning over Republicans.
Over the past few months, the former House speaker has charmed primary voters one debate at a time. The once underdog dismissed as a has-been when he first announced his run and the laughingstock of the race after he accumulated $1 million in debt this summer and was abandoned by almost his entire political team has compellingly mixed historical insight, warmth toward his fellow GOP candidates, and rancor toward the media into a formula that has propelled him to the top of the polls.
But is Gingrich the savior the GOP has been yearning for, as the party lurches from one flavor-of-the-month contender to the next? Gingrich, of course, has an impressive political résumé, particularly his 1994 Contract with America. But he also has, to borrow Tim Pawlentys term, some significant clunkers in his record that conservatives may want to consider before settling on Gingrich as the man of the hour. In no particular order, here are ten items in Gingrichs record that might give conservatives pause:

Tell me why please.
We’ll see. He might end up getting more votes than you think. But you could be right.
I didn’t abandon Cain over those false hussy accusations; I never abandoned him at all.
I was never on the Cain train. He always seemed weak to me. He still does. He’s a good guy and he’s my #2 pick but he seems weak. Wags his mouth a lot and ends up taking stuff back. That’s weak.
I know he’s the favorite in FR and I know why. He SEEMS to be a genuine conservative (though we don’t really KNOW do we?).
And he is my second choice.
Gingrich
Cain
They are my first 2 and only picks right now.
Wrongo - on who controlled congress, how old are you 18?
Under Dubya’s first term, the house and senate was controlled by the GOP. Until 2006.
Newt's done more for this country than any of people at their computers, in their mom's basement.
You should know better, FR is no fanboy of newt, never has been.
She was referencing 1994.
Is that even a word? lol
I meant referring to 1994.
Read a book.
FR was not for Bush either once Fred....go back just take a trip down that rabbit hole
You will be “experienced”
Because some of us have real and legitimate problems with newt and our rights have not been canceled because you can overlook those problems.

The truth is Herman gives us the best chance to win. I like Newt, his knowledge of the political landscape, but he lacks appeal outside of our base. Anyone who knows politics will tell you appeal trumps substance 90% of the time. Herman Cain has both. Unless we want a repeat of 2008, we better take the horse blinders off. A tidal wave of demographics is coming, and unless we begin to take advantage of competent, conservative minorities, we will forever become a fringe element. We cannot continue to lose 75% of the minority vote - a segment of the population which is by far outgrowing traditional white America - our fall will be inevitable. Leaders like Herman Cain, Allen West and Marco Rubio represent true opportunity and change. Newt is extremely capable, but that’s not the issue. He will be stereotyped as the old, boring, elitist Republican. And it’s only a matter of time before the MSM airs his dirty laundry...flip flops, extra marital affairs, etc. This notion that Newt win will the presidency solely by debating Obama is fiction. Obama will only agree to several debates, of which, he will throw out a few empty but memorable barbs which the leftist media will repeatedly air to spin as a draw. The rest of the time he will have to find a way to appeal to America, independents, and disenfranchised Democrats. Charisma and energy are not his strong attributes; being part of the establishment is. This isn’t about personal choices, it’s about choosing the candidate who gives us the best chance to win in November. Will we learn?
You wanna try again. I don’t know what you’re talking about.
I saw Newt walk to the front of a room and begin to speak to a room of Jewish businessmen in New York, who were booing and heckling him aggressively. When he finished, they were cheering him and begging him not to go. Its on C-SPAN.
The Democrats and the media may succeed and he may not get the nomination, but Newt is the absolute best person I have ever heard (possible exception, Margaret Thatcher) explain conservatism.
Thanks for that link, it is great and many could learn a few things if they dared.
If only.....
I always look forward to hearing Newt give one of his speeches, he is just brilliant. After reading “Benjamin Franklin, in his own words”, Newt is so much like Ben. Brilliant, Witty, and knows how to get things done. Go NEWT, a man for our times.
