Strike 1: Cuddling with NancyPo on the Gorebull Warming couch. Strike 2: Dede Scozzofava. Strike 3: Support of nationalized healthcare.

Yer out, Newty.

Newt is exactly what we need now... I think his time is now.

Gag me. Enough with the self-congratulating academics who accomplish nothing but rhetoric. We've had plenty of that with Zerobama.

I would like to see a law that says the following:

You are responsible for yourself. We advise you to buy insurance. If you do not buy insurance, it is your decision, but if you don’t and you need health care, you will pay for your own health care.

Newt 1993 :”“I am for people, individuals — exactly like automobile insurance — individuals having health insurance and being required to have health insurance. And I am prepared to vote for a voucher system which will give individuals, on a sliding scale, a government subsidy so we insure that everyone as individuals have health insurance.”
Gingrich replied he would not make it an issue in the campaign and said he agreed with key aspects of Romneycare.....
“I agree that all of us have a responsibility to pay—help pay for health care,” Gingrich said, adding, “I've said consistently we ought to have some requirement that you either have health insurance or you post a bond ...

I would like to see the clip to see if he provided a better rationale for it than the above, which is pretty lame. That was 1993 right in the middle of the Hillary-care battle.

Hillary-care proposed a mandate on all employers and some Republicans countered it with a personal manadate.

The biggest problem with these government mandates is everyone in congress and lobbying piles on the coverage requirements until the cost is so high it just makes things worse.

Notice how Newt is the center of attention now?

Anyone else notice these ‘07 - ‘08 and later sign ups are all of the sudden here posting nothing but articles bashing our candidates?

Seems to be a rash of them lately.

If support for an individual mandate to purchase health care “destroys” a candidate, who is doing the destroying?

Do you support Obamacare?

Since most Americans do not support Obamacare, what’s your view of how Newt’s support for an individual mandate to purchase health insurance might affect his candidacy in the general election?

Alternatiely, if someone supports Obamacare, why would they vote for Newt instead of Obama?

Sincere questions.

His multiple divorces, how he treated his wife that had cancer, etc, will bury him. He is the smartest guy in the room, but they will have a field day painting that picture and destroying him in the general election. He has no chance because of the personal choices he has made.

That may be true, but in this case the bash is justified - this member of the "Class of '98" fully agrees.

If Newt thinks mandated purchase of anything meets the letter and the spirit of the U.S. Constitution, then he simply isn't qualified to head up any branch of the U.S. Government.

Absolutely disgusting. Newt has just joined Mitt RINO and Ricardo Perry on my “do not vote” list.

Newt continually name-drops the Center for Health Transformation, an organization he founded.

I assumed it was a think tank set up for the purpose of bringing together people with big ideas on, well, "transformation" of the health care industry. Sort of like a mini Heritage Foundation devoted to health care reform.

Turns out Newt's Center for Health Transformation is, first, a FOR-PROFIT organization (unlike true think tanks). Big health care insurance and pharmaceutical companies, for example, pay large membership fees (to Gingrich) and in return they get to, essentially, lobby Gingrich, as well as "marketing and research support."

I didn't know this until recently. AstraZeneca and Blue Shield, for example, pays as much as $200,000 in membership fees. HERE.

Newts turn on the smear machine. Of course there will be a lot of help here on Free Republic to smear Newt and any Republican who rises to the top. Makes one wonder how many Republican establishment types and dimoKKKRAT operatives post here on Free Republic.

Ah, yes Newt was responsible for the birth of the Federal Department of Education, too. And he was in with the Global Warming gang. Newt can talk like an encyclopedia, but he is definely too a part of the Evil Left for Conservatives to accept.

If anyone is under 45 they don’’ know the half of Newt Gingrich! He is no conservative!

This is the part he said more recently: “Gingrich: Well, I agree that all of us have a responsibility to pay — help pay for health care.... I've said consistently we ought to have some requirement that you either have health insurance or you post a bond.

I was a bit sympathetic to Newt when he said that because I remember a bond being an option to out of Auto-insurance. Congress mandates that hospitals provide ‘emergency care’ for free (for those with no insurance.) In Maryland there is a emergency room tax put on the bill of all paying Patience to pay for those with no insurance.

But Newt does specify what he means by 'health care', too difficult to do on a 10 minute sales pitch interview.

How about if people could opt-out of future emergency medical care and not have to buy insurance? Unfortunately Republicans would never have the guts to propose it.
