Count me in as someone who does not think Perry has the mental firepower to debate Obama.
He looks rehearsed- sort of like Ted Baxter in the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Obama would win in a debate.
We need to have someone who is mentally skilled for debating.
That is just how it is.
If you cannot debate, and look like you truly understand the subject without appearing rehearsed- you will lose.
Perry looks like he is parroting talking points given to him by his handlers.

I’m female and Newt doesn’t put ME to sleep!

I think you made a sexist remark. I’m going to sue!

I thought it might help him because he’d finally figure out that he couldn’t get any worse, and his campaign was over if he didn’t do something big, so he might as well start enjoying himself and stop trying not to make mistakes.

Sometimes screwing up royally frees you up. Maybe that’s true for Perry.

I will say this — I find it unfathomable that the Perry we saw at the previous debates could have won election 3 times.

You are no one’s cash cow. Just a loud mouthed jerk. My bet is you are either a public employee or a clown living on a public pension.
I’ve never been unemployed, stick it up your fat a**.

It’s been quite a number of years now though.

I’m thinking he just may be tired. He’s been going all over the place. Earlier today he was in Texas meeting with Bush 41 etc etc. He needs to get some rest.

Again, I do not hate Rick Perry. His politics, however, blow.

I thought he did much better tonight. Any debate Rick Perry can walk away from w/o having made a complete fool of himself is a good night for Rick Perry.

Cain could have done better but he did alright.

Newt did well as usual. He's clearly the most experienced candidate on stage. I'm not sure that he can overcome his baggage but we'll see.

Romney sucked as usual. The bias shown by SEE-BS makes clear they want him to be the GOP nominee.

Bachmann did well also though I doubt she will benefit from it.

Santorum made some good points but I doubt he will benefit from it.

Wrong Paul is a loon who is only running as a Republican so he can get on stage and get face time.

Huntsman was pathetic. Time spent listening to him was time wasted.

The GOP set the schedule, which makes this all the more confusing.

I agree with your assessment of Newt. Being as he was Speaker of the House he knows how Congress works and will be able to get things done. He really loves this country and has studied it throughly.

He'd take any slot.

You are an idiot.

It is fortunate for us that nobody elected you spokesperson for the Tea Party. Or apparently the keeper of facts.

For example: The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to the border fence.

Perry does not oppos a border fence, He is a strong proponent of border security, including fences wherever they will be helpful, and not just a waste of money. NumbersUsa rated Perry good on border security. He's actually taken ACTION on border security.

Or this:

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to Arizona trying to defend itself from the ILLEGAL hordes that he wants to make citizens.

Perry does not oppose Arizona defending itself. IN fact, he strongly supports them, and had his AG file a brief supporting Arizona in court. He didn't want to copy the Arizona law in TEXAS.

If you can't defend your own candidate, and I know that is especially hard after tonight's debate, as Cain has pretty much conceded he is a neophyte on foreign policy, you could at least try to find factual stuff to attack Perry for. He did a few bad things you could cite.

Operative word being "did", because he actually has a record. It's probably easier for you supporting a candidate who never did anything, because that way he has no record you have to pretend doesn't exist.

Yes, he won. We must have him to defeat Obama. Perry wasn’t thinking and speaking - he was only speaking what he had rehearsed. That’s one of his problems - he can’t think under pressure. I regret that, but it’s the truth.
Our country must be saved from destroying itself and I think Newt is the only answer.

Hi Marcella!

I'm not sure I told you, but I got to meet and personally speak with five of candidates at the after Tea Party, "party" in Tampa, after the GOP/cnn debate in September. Newt was one of the candidates, along with Governor Perry, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Romney.

I liked all them very much personally, but Newt and I had quite an interesting conversation. I think he was at 3% at the time, and I told him I expected that he would go onto win the nomination! Of course that took him by shock, and he asked me why, so I told him. Remind me to tell you in FR mail...LOL.

I thought Governor Perry comported himself quite well tonight, but he did look rehearsed, albeit relaxed and more like the man I met! Rehearsal served him well.

They all did well, and by all I mean all of the viable candidates. I don't pay any mind to the Huntsman/Paul/Santorum who aren't going anywhere.

Romney got far too much time, as always.

Simple. He skipped the debates.

EVERYONE could relate to his brain freeze and I was telling my lib doctor that today - it was no big deal. And loved his comment - ‘glad I had my boots on’. LOL! Ah, normalcy. My doc said everyone of those candidates knew and no one helped - and I agreed. My doc said Perry says it all the time - and the obvious one he forgot.

Would have been better if he had. Maybe for 53 seconds he thought he was transported away to a happy place.

Spot on! I won’t give up on Governor Perry. He is getting better as he gets more comfortable in the whirlwind of the debate format. Soon he will fit to pull away the curtain from the One and give him a Texas style smack down.

I think Gloria Allred may be looking for some new more viable clients!

Seriously, though, while I mentioned my wife, my comment was in reference to the average voter. I'm sure there are many males who would find Newt boring and condescending.
