Some public figures have labeled the Mormon church as a cult. Most recently, ABC News reported that Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress applied such a label in an interview following a political gathering where Jeffress introduced a political rival to Mormon candidate Mitt Romney.
Use of such a term to describe Mormonism is highly offensive to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cult carries the connotation of dangerous, even violent groups whose beliefs are irrational and whose practices are immoral and lawless (Koresh and the Branch Davidians, Heavens Gate, Aum Shinrikyo, and The Peoples Temple are all prominent examples) . The term cannot be applied to Mormons unless it is so broadly defined that its use could be applied to virtually any religious body.
Like racist language, the use of the word cult to describe a religion usually tells us very little about the religion, but a great deal about the person using the word. In short, it tells us only that the person using the label cult doesnt like the religion in question, or thinks it is illegitimate. Bryan Wilson, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and a noted sociologist of minority religions noted:

True enough, just 94% are because that is the % that vote Romney. Let's hear it for the 6%ers, who buck support of the liberal Romney.
Warning! There are huge business bucks to be made off of anti-Mormonism - books, tapes, DVD’s, speaking engagements, workshops, seminars, etc. An entire industry exists with the sole purpose of knocking The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and all of its members - 14 million plus all over the world.
Furthermore, there are preachers, teachers, evangelists, leaders of other Christian churches whose very livelihood depends on passing the plate and preaching sermons about how evil the Mormons are, and on and on it goes. I heard many sermons of this sort myself when I was a Baptist and a Pentecostal in my past.
I suspect that the anti Mormons who continually populate these threads are hard pressed NOT to act as they do or they would lose financial support.
It’s a stacked deck. However, the Truth is the Truth. I am a Christian and that is the fact that cannot be tolerated by the anti Mormons. You see it here on FR thread after creepy thread. Most of the Mormons have already been purged from the ranks of FR.
Please note: I was once an anti Mormon. I remember saying things like: “Joseph Smith thought he was Jesus Christ!” I had been taught a falsehood. I was wrong; I opened my mind and heart.
Not sure.
Got proof of this?
Because I'll counter that Deseret Books and Beehive Books are wholly owned subsidiaries of the CojcoLDS, INC.
The LdS have an entire industry that is coordinated via SLC who controls the price of each and every product sold through Deseret owned bookstores and subsidiaries. They determine what ends up on the shelves or in the pages of a catalog.
So you had best be prepared to offer proof of your slander.
Or, which is normally the case, you're just throwing a flaming bag of crap out there with no substantiation and no intent on addressing any of the rebuttals.
You're poisoning the well, trying to generate sympathy using lies.
Pathetic.
I wish you really were a Christian. You seem to enjoy being the victim of ridicule. What did you expect with this thread?
You can tell yourself whatever you want and you can claim that all who disagree are just out to get Mormons, but you are as wrong as it gets.
You have chosen your path and I am afraid you will be sorely disappointed at its end.
I must add that you have a lot of nerve bringing up the passing of the plate. I’ve never attended a church that asked to see my W-2. How about you?
I have never been asked to show my W-2 at Church.
Are you Mormon?
not relevant
The tithing rules of LDS make the point that SD shouldn't get near the topic of passing the plate.
Again......absolutely relevant. Nice dodge, though.
Make that a “q, not a “g”. R-e-q-u-i-r-e
Bull feathers! NAME SOMEONE WHO IS MAKING "huge business bucks" and how much they are making.
"I am a Christian and that is the fact that cannot be tolerated by the anti Mormons."
Oh, really??
As "a Christian", how many gods do you believe exist?
As "a Christian", do YOU believe Jesus Christ is a created creature?"
As "a Christian", do YOU wear magic underwear?
Do you have a source or link to any of your claims?
It is something you keep repeating but have never provided any proof.
However, people opposed to mormonISM provide mega proof to their claims-just saying.
your post does not make sense what does a Church book store have to do and an cottage industry that preaching anti Mormon hate.
You will never find a book in Deseret or other LDS out that preaches hate of another faith
.
Ive never attended a church that asked to see my W-2. How about you?

who ever said that is a bald face liar!
Of course ex and anti Mormons like to tell those stories but that is all they are stories.
I never was asked that question in all my 29 years as a member

Why thank you Sandy, will take a look and get back to you.
Martin (a dead guy) wrote a book that describes the history and teachings of cults, sects, and Eastern religions in the United States, and compares each one’s beliefs with those of the Christian Church.
Yea, I guess he is a $$$ making treat. /s/
Criticism of mormonISM - my goosh. People expressing their concern about this cult.
Wow, similar to lds SLC publishing books trashing Christianity.
So I get how people exposing mormonISM would be a threat.
Really Cafe Press.....please at lest try and make a serious attempt at proving your point.
(pssst, did you notice the pro mormonISM stuff on Cafe Press?)
So here is what you provided, a link to a dead guys books that his followers occasionally reprint, netting him/group a million or so.
A bunch of people identified by FAIR, as expressing their opinions about mormonISM, netting them a couple of million over the years.
Compared to SLC/lds who’s net worth is $50 BILLION, building malls, trashing Christians.......setting up dozens of web site solicitation money, sending out 53K missionaries out to trash Christianity.
Lets see in the money wars who wins........
Come guys at least try and provide real evidence.
