Mike McQueary, the assistant Nittany Lions coach who told a grand jury that in 2002 he saw former coach Jerry Sandusky sexually assault a young boy, has been placed on administrative leave. The move was announced by Penn State Interim President Rod Erickson at a news conference that began at 4 p.m.

This idea that Mike McQueary did nothing is false. He stuck his neck out more than anyone else at PSU, even though he was low in rank.

McQueary said he saw Sandusky standing behind a boy about 10 years old, performing a sex act in the shower. McQueary immediately left and told his father. In the morning, he told Paterno, who then called Curley. About 10 days later, McQueary met with Curley and Schultz and told them what he witnessed, according to the grand-jury report.

People who bash McQ have no idea what corporations, govt. agencies, and other crooked outfits do to whistleblowers. McQ might have been blacklisted from coaching at any school. He might have been physically endangered. College football is a sleazy, lucrative racket. Come to think of it, higher education is a racket today, period. They don't want people around who squeal.

McQueary did report the act, in fact more than once. His real mistake was trusting the PSU admin. to do something about it. He’s not the one who ran the coverup. He’s also the key witness, other than the boys. Because of that, and because he testified truthfully before the grand jury, he will not be indicted.

Remember that McQ testified back in 2002. How is it his fault that nothing was done since then? People are bashing the wrong guy.

The Attorney General (Linda Kelly) was asked, during her presser, if Joe Paterno was under scrutiny because of his actions regarding the 2002 incident in the showers and she said that he was not because he reported the incident up the line of command. If Paterno isn’t a mandated reporter and can;t be held resposnsible for not calling the police then I guarantee that the same holds with McQ.

Physically endangered?

You mean like the raped child he abandoned to a monster?

Paterno had much more responsibility. He had command authority over Sandusky. McQueary had no power at all; he made his report and assumed the people in authority would take action.

McQueary is now being suspended not as punishment, but because of death threats against him from people who somehow think they could have done better.

Mind if I amplify this?

Without McQueary, Homogate would still be a rumor.

He is that most rare of birds, a witness to a rape, and without him, Sandusky stands a chance of walking.

Agreed!!! Also, the Grand Jury report says that the Athletic Director and the VP for Finance told McQueary the the incident would be fully investigated and handled. They lied to McQueary and buried it.

Sports talk radio news is that McQeary has placed in “protective custody”! Can anyone confirm that?

I would guess that when Paterno reported the matter to the AD, he assumed the AD would take action.

Damn it, a DA may have been murdered over this affair. DAs, judges, and cops are seldom murdered, yet somebody offed the prosecutor. Ordinary people like McQ are much more vulnerable.

McQueary also had to worry about whether anyone would believe him. That's the same fear some of the victims probably had. I don't blame McQ for consulting his father. If he had been married at the time, he would doubtless have consulted his wife. It's the kind of thing no one can handle alone.

It's reported that McQueary once broke up a knife fight between two teammates. (Which shows you the kind of people active in big-time college sports, by the way.) This guy is not a physical coward.
