Mike McQueary, the assistant Nittany Lions coach who told a grand jury that in 2002 he saw former coach Jerry Sandusky sexually assault a young boy, has been placed on administrative leave. The move was announced by Penn State Interim President Rod Erickson at a news conference that began at 4 p.m.

From what I have read, the prosecutor disappeared about six years after NOT finding enough evidence to prosecute Sandusky.

That is very odd to me. Usually all it takes is a veiled hint of impropriety to launch a full scale investigation and trial.

For all we know, this guy blackmailed PS, banked the money in a Bahama bank and is laying on the beach listening to Jimmy Buffet cds.

In the meantime...The MSM just loves to convict people..I think I may wait to hear all the details from someone other than them.

McQueary had some reason to expect that, at some point, he might have to deal with violence between two football players on a college campus more than he'd ever have to deal with a an adult having anal sex with a boy on that campus.

I am sure Sandusky's reputation was well known to McQueary. Like Barry Switzer said, they all had to know.

THIS is a lot bigger than football.

If it were a gymnastics coach at a high school anywhere, it would never have made national news.

Except his home computer showed searches for how to destroy a hard drive and his laptop was destroyed.

Thank you, KansasGirl for that link.

Very informative and thorough.

Perhaps this part is the most damning to all the JoePologists still out there:

According to the grand jury, then, here is how McQueary’s eyewitness account became watered down at each stage:

McQueary: anal rape.

Paterno: something of a sexual nature.

Schultz: inappropriately grabbing of the young boy’s genitals.

Curley: inappropriate conduct or horsing around.

Spanier: conduct that made someone uncomfortable.

Raykovitz: a ban on bringing kids to the locker room.

Other than the victimized children and their families, there are no innocents in Happy Valley.

While there he did something to a boy that made the people at the high school report the act. No. The mother had told Sandusky to stay away from her boy then she learned that the school was letting Sandusky take the boy out of class on 'trips'. She called the school and demanded a meeting. The school called the boy in and he told what was happening.

The mother said that the school officials told her to 'carefully consider the consequences' if she reported this.

The mother then immediately took her boy out of school and went to Child Services.

At any rate the reason Sandusky was indicted was because the reporting chain went through the child services agency...not the police. If it went through the police, I don't know if the AG investigation ever would have begun.

Spanier is 63 and was very well paid as PSU president. He can probably afford to retire now--if he is like many university presidents, he hasn't taught a course in years. If he has tenure, they would have to follow procedures to have him deprived of it.

His field is sociology and he's an expert on "mate swapping"--the Wikipedia biography has a link to an article on the topic he published in the 1970s. If the Sociology Department needs a course on that topic taught and they don't think it wise to assign it to Spanier, they should be able to find faculty who have done field research on the topic, but just haven't published their findings like Spanier did.

It might not have been at that time. McQueary was still relatively new to the PSU coahing picture and may not have been aware of Sandusky's habits. If he had been aware, he probably would never have reported the incident at all...he would have sinmply laughed it off.

McQueary was the starting quarterback for PSU years before. He had lots of time in the locker room. Like Barry Switzer said ... they all knew. You can't hide stuff like that in the locker room.

Sandusky didn’t seem to have been to concerned about getting caught raping young boys in the PSU football complex shower. Why is that? My guess, because everyone knew and it was accepted. McQueary found out and fell in line like everyone else. PSU is a sick place.

It's one thing to know about something, another to look into a child's eyes as he is being raped ...

Then explain to me why he ever reported the incident at all. Why didn't he just walk away and assume that it was Jerry banging another boy and it wasn't worth his time to report?

Not only that, coaches at other schools knew, Sandusky could have had his pick of head coaching jobs if he wanted, but obviously his "secret" was well known in the coaching fraternity.

I cannot believe he saw what he says he saw and not just barge in and stop it. Then call the cops.

No doubt I am dating myself, but convenient disappearance used to be called..”leave the coat floating”.

Updated version..leave the laptop floating with a destoyed hard drive.

I sure don’t know what happened to the guy. And don’t even know if it had anything to do with Sandusky.

So you don't think Sandusky was banging little boys?

Imagine what a shock it must have been for McQ as he realized that his hero Joe Paterno was not surprissed or outraged and had no intention of putting a stop to Sandusky’s criminal behavior nor did anyone else. Then he fell in line and was attending fundraisers with Sandusky within the month. Wonder how he justified it all in his own mind. Wonder how he got the image of that little boy out of his mind?

Thats not a good enough response. If McQueary knew about Sandusky then why did he bother to report it to Paterno in 2002?
