Police in riot gear deal with Penn State students gathering to support Joe Paterno

STATE COLLEGE -- More than a thousand Penn State students are moving between the campus and downtown, chanting in support of football coach Joe Paterno, whose job has been questioned over his handling of sex-abuse allegations involving a former coach.

Crowds began to gather around 10 p.m. on Beaver Avenue. After police in riot gear told them to move along, the students moved to Old Main. They sang the alma mater, professed their love for Paterno and profanely denounced Sandusky. They pointed toward Penn State president Graham Spanier's still-lit office. Then, after a brief "back to Beaver" chant, the crowd returned to Beaver Avenue.

I don’t think Joe Paterno basks. That’s why they like him, and why its so hard to believe. He’s not a basker. He’s all business, a straight arrow. Again, part of what makes this story so bizarre. I suspect there will be enough additional details to give this story legs right through the 12 elections.

You responded to my post to another member. Maybe read the whole thread. I was obviously talking about Paterno. Only an idiot would think otherwise. But then again...

This was going on for many years. Joe should have made sure this was being handled responsibly, meaning going to the campus police and leaving it there was not enough. If it had been one of his children or grandchildren being abused, I’m sure he would not have left it there.

If someone I knew was involved in something like that, I would not rest until I was sure that person was in cuffs and hauled off to jail. We can all be sure that Joe knew that this was going on for a while. Turning a head is awful, immoral, and criminal. All of them need to be put on trial. That is my prayer.

As a grad of PSU I believe that in the end this was about 20-30 yrs worth of a few protecting the Penn State football brand and greed, and never about goodness or as Paterno said Success with Honor.

Anyone who got in the way of management in hurting the brand of the institution would be trashed, or made into a laughing stock and their credibility dissolved. Confrontation of the powers that be would lead to self economic destruction.

It was always about more money, and no ethics. Those involved could buy off our politicians just as do the CEOs an Wall St bankers and billionaires with their pocket change. Hey politicians are a cheap date but not for taxpayers.

um- try and follow along; not a single line in any of my posts backs student rioting...i just laugh at the knee jerk reaction by some- primarily you in this case- that want to shut down sports, including major revenue producing sports which helps keep tuition lower, because its “getting in the way of school”...people choose PSU in large part because of the academics and atmosphere, which football is a huge part of...

"Um, try and follow along"?!

Yeah, would not want something like child rape to get in the way of the money, or the game. Who needs society when you got bucks! Whats a few dozen ruined lives when it comes down to the real nitty gritty of importance here on earth. Morals? Who needs them, with Internet anonymity, you can be as rude as you want, EF um, if they can't take a joke, right?

Let me guess, alumni? But thanks for illustrating the point so well. Society is important, and civility is an important part of society. Morals, being of course the building blocks of civility.

See how it works? So if you toss morals, or laws, for power or wealth civility, which includes respect for one another and other peoples property goes out the window. You end up with rude, lawless people, trained to think of their desires as above all others, or the rules of society. Society breaks down and you get things like riots to "support" felony level crimes by committing felonious acts.

But, if its too hard to understand the values of societal virtue, just think of it as some sort of knee-jerk reaction when people get offended as massive criminal coverups and outrageous actions by the supposed to be educational elites.

And yes, I would support the death sentence for this puke, I truly believe his crimes are so bad.

God loves America, that He is destroying it. Something to do with the sacrifice of 50,000,000 children. After all, if He did not do so, Sodom and Gomorrah would feel like they got the short end of the deal.

alumni?? yes- of St John's University...

but again the knee jerk reaction to close down a sports program based on the errors and even criminal ways of a few idiots is the perfect solution....

values of society?? sort of like make everyone pay for the sins of a few?? makes a lot of sense...

i mean it wouldn't ruin any lives per say... the kid on the track team or volleyball team that uses their athletic skills to get a scholarship and pay for a college education they would otherwise not be able to afford- the hell with them...

the guy who work at the stadium on the weekends or the arena during the winter selling programs or working security to make a few extra bucks to help make ends meet...screw him

the student who works at the concession stands during games to make a few $$$ so they can pay for their books or meal plan....go hungry

the local publisher who prints the programs during football/basketball season....find another vocation

the local motels, restaurants, etc whose very livelihood depends on alumni, visiting teams etc coming into town and staying the night to see a game...tough sh!t

the local pub, souvenir store, etc that make most of their annual revenue on gamedays...deal with it

no- lets shut down the entire sports program because of the sins of a few and the fact its getting in the way of school-that would be the civil and moral thing to do...lmao

that Sandusky was running a high-dollar pedophile ring, and that “Second Mile” was merely a front and means of recruiting and enslaving young boys who were then pimped to wealthy Penn State donors for sex.

Penn State should be shut down. Not just the football program - the entire university. Shut it down immediately. Any student of Penn State with any sense should be making arrangements to transfer to another university, because graduating from Penn State would necessitate that said person list Penn State on their resume, which will now be a major, major strike against that person. Why? Because they knowingly entered and subsidized a cult that worshiped an old man who “coached” a football team. And, as it turns out, that old man facilitated and enabled a massive pedophile ring. Further, said students, even after learning of this and seeing that “old man” fired, RIOTED last night IN SUPPORT OF THE CULT LEADER / PEDOPHILE RING ENABLER.

TIMELINE:

1998: Sandusky is investigated for an incident involving himself sexually assaulting a young boy in the Penn State showers. Child Protective Services investigate. The university is fully notified.

1999: Sandusky, age 55, is suddenly forced into retirement at his prime, when all previous indications were that he was the heir-apparent to Paterno, who was 72 years old at the time. The retirement package is now thought to have been in exchange for Penn State covering up Sandusky’s pedophilia. Sandusky’s pedophilia is being called a “poorly kept secret” in the world of Division I football, which explains why one of the top coaches in the nation was not even offered any other position after Penn State.

2000: Despite being retired from Penn State and no longer being in the employment of Penn State or Paterno, Sandusky has unfettered access to the Penn State facilities and travels with the team. In the fall of 2000 a janitor catches Sandusky orally raping a young boy in the football team’s showers after hours. Sandusky OBVIOUSLY had keys and passcards which gave him full access despite being no longer “employed” by PSU or Paterno.

2002: Sandusky is caught AGAIN in the showers, this time anally raping a young boy, and is caught by Mike McQueary, who is now an assistant coach. Sandusky STILL has keys and passcards to PSU facilities.

2009: Grand jury investigation begins after a 15 year old boy reported Sandusky to police. Penn State top brass, including Paterno, are called to testify. Sandusky is still seen using PSU football facilities.

Week of 10/30-11/5, 2011: Sandusky is seen working out in a PSU football weight room.

They all knew. Not only that, but Sandusky felt “safe” using the PSU football facilities and showers as his rape room, and was indeed caught repeatedly with zero consequences. Think about that. Sandusky was CAUGHT red handed in the showers sexually assaulting boys in 1998 and 2000, and there was even an investigation as a result of the 1998 incident, and yet Sandusky still felt so “safe” at PSU that he continued to bring boys there to be raped. He continued to hang around the team and be seen in the near-constant company of young boys. Sandusky’s confidence is extremely telling.

Penn State should be shut down, and anyone who knew about this should be facing down multi-decade prison sentences. Paterno should die in prison.

Pedophiles should be executed. Justice, in charity, demands it. Find every single participant in the “Second Mile” pedophile ring and let justice be done swiftly upon him.

The Centre County District Attorney who sparred with Penn State over Sandusky, but never prosecuted, was murdered in 2005. Ray Gricar’s empty car was found in a parking lot on April 16, 2005, and his laptop, missing its hard drive, was found nearby in the Susquehanna River. Gricar’s body has never been found, and he was declared dead earlier this year.

Pedophile and sex slavery rings are some of the most dangerous, powerful and wealthy criminal organizations in the world.

even better; shutting down the entire school represents the moral equivalent of sanduskys actions- fuq the 95,000 students that attend yet had nothing to do with it....

I have no problem reopening the school, once the criminal proceedings have taken place. Get some new staff in there, its obviously needed. Indite, replace, reopen. But I wonder just how “quality” of a education your going to get from such an administrative cess pool.

But heck, its their money, we all know that kids are smart with their money and will all get a useful education out of the tens of thousands of debt. Just ask all the people with degrees in OWS.

Frankly, OWS and this pedophilic sex ring on campus just shows that our education system is rotten to the core. Might have a bit to do with the abysmal quality of the students in international testing.

Was wondering if you can say anything without bitter sarcasm? Just what do they teach you in there? Bitter sarcasm fits poorly in board meetings. Works ok in the mail room though.
