#81: No, it is NOT a crime. Sexual harrassment is a pattern of behavior. Not a one-time event. Corporations no longer have to give sexual harrassment seminars anymore. My company does it, but only because we face customers and vendors on the projects we work.
I didn’t say it’s a crime, nobody goes to jail or even sued. It’s employment, and it doesn’t have to be a crime to get chewed on by HR. One incident will do. One. Several of these hair-trigger incidents are a pattern, and that’s why my remark about the unemployment line.
Let me put it another way. Let’s say I’m young, single and on the make, I asked five women out per year (I said my company is large), and four liked it. The fifth said no, and then cried to HR promptly. That’s one HR incident per year. Do that for five years and I’m toast. (with the thousands of people in my company, 25 ask-outs in 5 years is not horrible, it’s one every 2-3 months)
Look, I am not a member of the He-Man Woman Hater’s Club, I’m just stating a fact about the large corporate atmosphere out here. I am glad to hear yours is better than mine.
Sorry, I just looked at #81 and I DID say it was a crime. I was in hyperbole mode, and I apologize for calling you a liar!
