The university police investigated the report in 1998. University attorneys reviewed the report against Sandusky in 1998.
The board of directors is canning their current president.
Tom Ridge is being considered to be the new head of the board.
As I suspected, which is likely why he retired in 99.
They knew, they covered it up then, and let it go on after.
As disgusting as this is on its surface just with the 02 allegations.. As the rocks get turned over, I really think you are going to see people turning a blind eye and covering up long before that at PSU and State College, PA.
In 1998, the University Police investigated multiple incidents involving Sandusky and boys in the Penn State showers. We do not know if that was two incidents or more. We just know that it was more than one.
We also don't know when the incidents occurred. We only know they were investigated in 1998. If there were multiple incidents, there is the possibility that one or more occurred in 1998 and that in the course of the investigation, incidents before 1998 were investigated.
We simply do not know much about the 1998 report.
We know that Sandusky was considered the 'heir apparent" to Paterno, but he tendered his surprise early retirement in 1999. At the time, and now, it was reported that he was told he would not follow Paterno as head coach. That's believable. However, it's entirely reasonable to believe he was told that he would not follow Paterno because it was rather widely known that Sandusky was showering with little boys in the football locker room showers. I've lost most (well, almost all) of my respect for Joe Paterno since Monday morning (and I can't emphasize how much respect I had) - but I have no problem visualizing Joe Paterno telling his close friend "you're not going to be the head coach" in 1999 because the guy was showering with little boys.
