Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Enquirer thinks that Paterno has to go.
Paterno escaped indictment because he told athletic director Tim Curley about an alleged 2002 incident in which a graduate student reported discovering Sandusky performing sex acts on a boy who was about 10 years old in the shower area of a football locker room. Paterno told Curley, who failed to report it to the proper authorities, according to the attorney general. Then Paterno apparently did nothing.
That is where we start to see the difference between the fictional Joe Paterno, whose reputation and that of the university has been built on rock-solid morals, and what might be the real Joe Paterno.
The fictional Joe Paterno would have said, Hey, this is awful, but we have to clean it up. We have to do the right thing. Its going to look bad for us, but you cant let something like this go. We have to get Jerry some help, and we have to make sure he doesnt hurt any kids.
The real Paterno, as nearly as can be determined from the indictments, passed the information to Curley and then washed his hands. He apparently didnt follow up when there was no further investigation. He apparently didnt ask questions when Sandusky continued to enjoy his emeritus status on campus, complete with an office and access to the same building in which the alleged assault took place.
1. He did not aquit himself well in this matter..yes, he reported it, but failed to ever inquire what happened..it doesn't pass the smell test.
2. The president will be gone..for his idiotic statements supporting the two guys who just quit. And they'll be a new AD..and even if this whole mess hadn't happened, the AD had just retired, there is no way a new AD comes aboard with hsi first decision having to be what to do about Paterno. No smart guy would ever be put in that position. So, JoePa will be TOLD, firmly, he's got to go..and he will
Speaking of Golden..well...there's lots of talk in Florida that he leaves Miami after this season. He was lied to..told nothing, and if Miami escapes the death penalty ( which is still 50/50) the sanction will be so severe...loss of scholarships..no post season bowl, that he won't be abloe to recruit for years. So he can get out of his contract, claiming that he was lied to, which he was, and just maybe, he comes back to PSU at the savior...assuming of course, that there's nothing that even remotely suggests that he had any idea about Sandusky..
