Newt shines in this kind of setting. He has a clear, ordered and focused mind, and the ability to lead debate and develop consensus.
Herman Cain is a bright, likeable man, with a great story, and good ideas, but if this debate is an example, does not have the leadership abilities and command of the issues needed to be POTUS.
Of all the candidates, the only one I see who could demolish Mitt in a debate, and wipe the floor with Obama, is Newt.
I really like Cain. I just wish he were a better debater, with a better command of the issues, especially foreign policy issues.

Agree. But, after what Herman Cain has been through this past week - and he still had to prepare for this and other appearances - I give him a big, huge two thumbs up.

Like Rush said...Herman Cain does not back down.

Yep...that's how I'm seeing it as well...CAin will have trouble in a debate with Obama...he's got little time to learn what he will need for that. Newt knows the BOO....and how he thinks and speaks....he'll nail him to the wall.

We all know that Newt has more “knowledge” but that is only half the battle. If you can’t inspire, and sell, and establish trust, it doesn’t matter how smart you are.

Gingrich is a good leader of politicians, Cain is a good leader of the people in general. The average Joe understands and connects with Cain. That is crucial in the general election.

Cain/Gingrich would be a juggernaut.

Again, I am really nervous about Gingrich’s ideas of centralizing medical information. Seriously. And in another debate, I did not like his pell grants to states for K-12. We need to get gov’t out of education.

Cain has had 6 months not 35 years. He's learning. And smart policy wonks are useful and impressive, but not as overall leaders. We seem to forget that Newt quit in scandal after he let the power go to his head as Speaker of the House. Plus overall leaders like Reagan are likeable, understandable to the average Joe, and personable.
