After 15 to 20 minutes I noticed Newt has the thought-out fix for everything, and it's all easy, and all obvious. That always sets off my alarm bells.

The subject of fixing SS came up and again Newt went into his :”It's easy....” analogies. He says how SS was insolvent under Carter but it became solvent under Reagan merely by creating new jobs and increasing the economic growth rate.
Well that does sound like it was REALLY easy except.....Newt must have been a-sleep during a major change to SS under Reagan. Hint : It created the so called 'trust fund'.
