Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is shaping up to be the anti-Romney in the Republican presidential race, according to a new Newsmax/InsiderAdvantage poll of Iowa caucus voters.
Although the survey showed scandal-plagued Herman Cain still enjoying a substantial lead, InsiderAdvantage head Matt Towery says that will almost certainly not last.
We found most Republican voters in Iowa were unaware of the latest developments in the Cain case, Towery said after Thursday nights poll. There is a great likelihood that his vote will fall off.
The poll put Cain at 30% with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 15%. Gingrich was third with 12%, followed by Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 9%, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann at 8%, Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 6% and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 2 %.

I'm really surprised at the low numbers for Perry but he is sufferring from GW Bush more than anything he's done or not done. The man has the best ads out. Anyway Let's see what next week brings. This show is getting interesting but I do think we could see Romney sink to single digits in Iowa before all is said and done. Those who have been pushing him either aren't good with math or are just trying to wish him into office. He has no path to victory as long as conservatives align behind one candidate. If Cain wins Iowa I don't think there is any stopping him especially after he managed to survive what for most was considered a direct hit and you could see there appeared to be coordination. They were trying to turn him into a joke like they did with Palin, Bush etc. They failed.
I’ll take Gingrich. He’d make mincemeat out of OBummer.
He knows that. Keep Herman right on the top. Debate tomorrow on CSPAN 7PM CST. 90 minute Lincoln-Douglas style.
I really don’t see it. They said the same thing about Al Gore. I think he could defeat Obama but I think it would be harder for him than many of the others. He has already set a trap for himself with his ‘rising above it all’ stuff. That will get him no where with Obama. If he manages to win the nomination I’ll certainly support him. Anybody but Romney but I think Cain will surprise.
Good to see you walking around this late.
Thanks. I think I’m going to call it a night. Have a good one.
;^)
Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 6%. Snicker. That is hilarious. Can’t wait for him to drop out.
I’m really surprised at the low numbers for Perry
I am not. He is a liberal who is trying to pretend to be a conservative (failing that big time). He is a loser candidate and 92 percent of the primary voters see that. Thank God this guy is NOT going to be the President of the United States. It would have been a disaster. Go Cain!!!!! 30 percent and number 1!!!!
“Scandal-plagued.” And we’re not told exactly what Cain is guilty of!
I'm not a Cain guy but I am constantly confused by expert statements like this. How the Hell does he know that Cain is going to crash. Nothing has hurt him yet.
Don’t hold your breath.
Newt’s gaining. Couldn’t threaten a nicer wafflemeister.
People toss the term "Kafkaesque" around too freely, but it fits perfectly in this case.
A scandal about something, involving someone anonymous, leaked by a hidden source, and we're not sure what was said or done but it was something, and Cain is 'scandal-plagued' because of it.
Sounds more like Newsmax wishful thinking than any kind of actual analysis.
Cain is confounding the ‘experts’ on this manufactured ‘scandal’ and he’s driving them crazy. Go Hermanator!
they never preface obama with scandal plagued Obama
Wow if Newt can pass Romney that would put Romney in 3rd! LOL
If Huntsman has a good showing at his next debate, he might close in on Perry....
