After a week of gaffs from Gov. Rick Perry, his wife Anita is left picking up the pieces and playing damage control on the campaign trail to steer conversation to policy issues.
Im really proud, said the first lady of Texas at an American Spectator gala in Washington, D.C. He put himself on the line and is withstanding the fire because of love of country.
Perry has been in the line of fire, rather, since Friday when allegations surfaced that he delivered a speech in New Hampshire while intoxicated. Though event hosts are defending Perrys sobriety, his lucid speech was not his only gaff of the week.

Another Texan here who likes Perry. I also thought his NH speech was fab. Intersting, if you read the comments on YouTube, many of those liberals like him after seeing that speech. An interesting strategy - I gotta hand it to him.
Just imagine what HER project will be if she ever becomes FLOTUS.
I agree but I’m concerned that only Newt and Romney can win from this debacle, and let’s face it, of the four of them, really only Newt, Cain and Romney are viable candidates.
Perry has no path to the nomination at this point. If Cain declines it only redounds to Newt. If Romney declines it could benefit both Cain and Newt, but Newt much more than Cain. I’m of a mind that Perry’s support would naturally go to Cain, but Perry is in single digits everywhere.
It looks as if Romney’s support will not breach 30 percent, so if Cain is brought down by obvious Perry operatives, the nomination will be Newt’s to lose.
So running as a "good ole' boy" against the lefties there is like taking votes from baby, so to speak.
But the kind of swagger which plays in Texas does not play in the rest of the (higher-IQ) states."
{Ahem!} Really?

Indeed we are.
;o)
I didn't know Perry was even on FR.
What's his screen name?
Yeah, yeah.....I know. 'Nother newbie trying to get anyone who doesn't hate Perry banned....take it up with Jim Robinson.
I think you are right.... and Newt ain’t looking so bad these days... compared to the rest of this lot.
If RHINO Perry is the best the Republicans can do, this country is doomed. Im sure we can all agree that the Democrats arent going to steer us in the right direction so we have few options. Perry isnt a Conservative and that is a fact based on his record in Texas, coming from someone who is a Texas Conservative. Someone who is conservative EVERYTIME, not just when it is convenient. Whether the HPV vaccine, Texas Forensics commission, corruption, the list goes on. We need REAL change in Washington and that doesnt come from an echo. We cant change the democrat party. We can only change our own. We need to take the high ground and lead by example and that starts with choosing leaders that represent our values, not just say they do.
It is the truth.
Gee, a horrible week of news for the GOP candidates, except Romney.
Who woulda thunk?
Obama is grateful.
Yep.
Coming up next: Newt’s turn at the notRomney spot.
Can’t wait to see how he gets trashed out during his turn.
We’re all doing our part on our way to the Romney Nominee!

Stick a fork in Perry. He is done.
Its not Perry, she is the mastermind, she is the one with the ambition and goals of control and power, Perry is just a male front person. Look at her mannerism and tell me I am wrong.
“Stick a fork in Perry. He is done.”
Since Perry is done then there is no need for the vitriol by Freepers.
Anita and Mitt are the only GOPers who seem to really have the ‘fire in the belly’ for this presidential race.
