“What would Politico’s motivation be to expose their source? Maybe they think they can get a two for one and eliminate both Cain and Perry with one story?”

It was BACKFIRING and Cain was picking up more and more strength. They need to end this story and at least wait until the general election before they try this stunt again.

During primary season the only ‘voters’ are Republicans, most identifying themselves as Tea Party. They do not take kindly to character assassination. In the general election, this kind of garbage can and has worked.

Man I think you nailed it. It was backfiring and they were increasingly looking foolish as many Conservatives rallied around Cain. If Cain gets thru this it could end up being a blessing in that it was dealt with now and not in the general election.

I was listening to someone smarter than me on the radio the other day (I can’t remember the name, sorry, I believe it was a writer for Human Events), and the show host asked him about the timing of the Politico story. He noted that Cain’s recent surge in the polls and fundraising means there’s probably been a lot of confusion in Cain’s organization as they rapidly add staff. With all the shuffling going on they don’t have all the pieces in place to deal with a crisis properly and cohesively. Great time to hit him.
