I don’t know if Perry’s camp is behind this or not, but it does seem that Perry would probably gain the most from a Cain derailment. Mitt isn’t going to get Cain voters, and Perry is in desperate straits to keep his campaign alive.
Of course, it could be a whole ‘nother bunch of folks behind this, too. I’ve noticed precious few professional flacks inside the Beltway honor Reagan’s 11th Commandment. There are surely a lot of “Herman can’t win” types relishing the thought of Cain being knocked out by these allegations.
Either way, I’m not buying any of the allegations made so far. Nothing I’ve seen or heard suggests that anything resembling genuine sexual harassment ever took place between Cain and any employee.
I think you overstate Perry's weakness at this point. He's been down before and alwasy manages to come out ahead. Ask Governor Hutchison of Texas what kind of a campaigner Rick Perry is.
