A New York City café owner says the Occupy Wall Street movement is killing local jobs.
Mark Epstein, owner of the Milk Street Café in Manhattan's Financial District, has fired 21 employees since demonstrators - calling themselves the '99 per cent' - began their ongoing encampment in Zuccotti Park.
He says police barricades that line Wall Street - put in place to keep protesters out - are also blocking potential customers from coming inside.
Mr Epstein said his Boston-based café has a 30-year history. He opened the Wall Street branch in June after signing a lease with the Trump organisation.
He hired 100 employees and borrowed money for the upstart. The only restaurant in an area next to a pedestrian plaza, he said business was booming at first.

It looks like it was a pretty awesome place. Very sad. I hope the OWS hippies are proud of themselves.

I wonder if these OWS vermin give a blank. After all, this cafe is a capitalist business. And the jobs lost are beneath those who protest at OWS. They think those jobs are just exploiting the workers, so the loss of such jobs doesn’t matter to OWS types.
Sue them for what is left of their donations. I think they said they have about 500k and don’t know what to do with it. Go get it!
But....but...they’re victims....Ron Paul said so. /sarc
I wrote about this earlier this week. The true victims of the OWS hubbaloo are the taxpayers and the business owners near Zuccotti park. When the OWS crowd runs out of dope and goes home, it will be business ownwers and taxpayers footing the bill to clean up the mess.
“I say teach these sniveling little bastards a lesson. Just don’t hire them, for ANYTHING.”

I assume you are referring to the slimy protestors, and not the poor hapless employees of the restaurant.
They are just victims of the “Oh We Stink” crowd.
Better yet, sue Michael Bloomberg.
Definately. And being that it’s New York city aka “Sue York city” one of the most sue happy cities in the country, they would have no problem finding a lawyer. I would definately do that without a second thought. I lose my job right before the holidays and they’re sitting on half a mill? Eff them bigtime!
As a small business owner I make it clear that if you are a MARXIST/LIBERAL/SOCIALIST you have no business applying for a job at my place.
Yes, I discriminate based on party affiliation. It's not a crime, yet.
another reason to eat Kosher :) You’re more likely to eat at a place that doesn’t support liberals.
Although 40 Wall St is a few blocks away, all Wall St is cordoned off around the NYSE. It is a PITA to get there.
Idiots who borrowed $100,000 for a college degree in poetry and now can’t find a job shouldn’t make suggestions, much less demands, as to how this whole damn thing should be run.
You’d better believe that if somebody applies for a job, I am going to comb the Internet to find out if they were involved at all with OWS, and if they were, the resume goes right in the dumper.
The irony is that it’s a pretty good bet that the owner and the former employees support the protesters.

here’s a video with some more info on the eatery & their business history
Holy smokes, kid. On WHAT basis are you accusing the employees of the restaurant. You didn’t read the article, did you? And you got caught in your own inaccuracies.
“The true victims of the OWS hubbaloo are the taxpayers and the business owners near Zuccotti Park.”
Well put. But the victims extend far beyond Zuccotti Park. They exist in every municipality where local govts have had to spend extra $$$ for police coverage as well as sanitation.
In the case of Minneapolis, both the city and Hennepin County (neither of which is flush with cash these days) have spent lots in LEO and Public Works overtime.
I’m not sure that this fact (as well as the example of what happened to businesses like Milk Street Cafe) has resonated with these self-absorbed protestors.

I think they do know and they don’t care.
