Free Republic founder Jim Robinson has a message for supporters of Mitt Romney: go away.
In an email to POLITICO this afternoon, Robinson admitted that the site routinely blocks Romney supporters from posting -- and offered no apologies for the practice:
Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency.

You’re not a long time poster. I have been here a while. I’ve seen the filthy tactics of Romney’s shills. I had to fight the lying, prevarications and smears of good people because just like their duplicitous candidate, Romney’s supporters would do anything, no matter how vile, if they thought it would help him win.
We have been there and done that. We know Romney and his lying backstabbing behavior. We don’t need to relive the last election to know what he is.
You have already been told that Romney is not a conservative. He’s not even a moderate. He is a democrat with an (R) after his name pretending to be conservative. This site has never supported democrats or their principles or lack thereof. I’m not at all surprised Jim Robinson has done this. Since this is a conservative website, we don’t have to put up with lib Romney garbage here.
Look, I “admitted” in a post above that we don’t actually routinely ban all Romney supporters like this reporter says. But I have stated often that there will be no campaign for RINO Romney on FR and I mean that. RINO supporters will just have to keep it under their hats or in the closet. Hopefully, Cain, Perry, Bachmann or one of the others will knockout Romney and this will all blow over. C’mon. RINO Romney was blown out of the water by the likes of John McCain. Sheesh!
How would you feel if that kid spray painted that liberal notion on the side of your house? That is more an apt analogy because they are using your house to physically promote their liberal notions in the same way promoting a candidate or position here uses physical resources owned by Jim.
As another poster said, you may have the right to free speech, but I don’t have to give you my megaphone.
FR is not a debating society. It is also not a Republican site. It is conservative. Romney is not a conservative. If you believe that Romney supporters should be given a voice then you must also believe that Obama supporters have the same right. The truth is that neither do. FR is private property. And conservative. Period.
Jim, I am completely behind you! You rock!
Au contraire, mon frère. That's exactly what I see a handful of people on this thread doing. The insufferable whining sense of entitlement reminds me so much of the OWS crowd. I'm beginning to wonder if they're going for an OFR thing. JimRob is being remarkably tolerant and patient, imo.
Go to the Democratic Underground/ Daily Kos and tell everyone there how much you love Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. You’ll be banned there faster than you can say Mitt Romney.
Why is it that liberal sites can support or ban whatever they want, while some people believe conservative sites should be required to put up with liberal garbage?
Atheists and non-Christians can literally have more in common with conservatives than Romney.
FR is not a debating society. It is also not a Republican site. It is conservative.
Mega dittos. I’m politically registered as independent, conservative and do not (REPEAT - DO NOT ever ) support global corporations owning and running our USA government for the pleasure of the global interests, and for that reason alone do not support the RNC.
“Unfortunately you only agree in theory.”
Nonsense.
I seek to save at least some of the lost (moderate) conservatives via reason.
THAT is the ‘fight’ we are supposed to be having in this pre-primary season.
JR talks a big game about that fight, then seeks to keep them from entering the ring.
Been reading your site for years, loved the news, especially foreign policy and military coverage. I also support Romney. In the super bowl of politics called the race to the white house, you seem to suddenly ban those who aren’t rooting for your team? I understand your site is meant for your particular audience, which is fine - but there are plenty of sites that allow complete open-ended debate/promotion, which is truly free - unlike your site. Very contradictory of a site that is supposed to be pro-liberty. That’s all I really have to say.
For the record: life long conservative in MD, not Mormon, or any of the general accusations you might think of.
“Narcissistic much?”
Don’t make me come down there, my throne just got warm!
“Our narrow path is for the righteous few”
A little confused, there. Indeed, in Matthew 7:13 & 14 Jesus talks of the narrow road and the narrow gate.
However, He went where the sinners were to preach and spread His glorious message. HE DID NOT confine himself to the Temple(s). In fact, He considered them to be CORRUPT places!
What Jesus did was welcome and sacrifice Himself FOR ALL who believed in Him. His arms were open wide TO ALL who accepted His Lordship and holiness.
For my part, I much prefer a reformed and converted sinner who has come to see the light and who gets it, to someone flintily convinced of his own righteousness.
The Elites are depending on us to rally to whoever they choose to run. I'm not playing that game... again.
And there you have it, clear identification of the enemy and the strategy.
FR is a conservative site. Romney is NOT a conservative. Period.
FR is not for everyone. If ours is not your way, feel free to go elsewhere.
Cause we’re not changing to yours whatever it is. And I’m not looking to convert anyone. You is or you ain’t my baby.
Excellent comments. While it is true that I would be a reluctant supporter of Romney (have several others I strongly prefer to him), I would vote for him.
And the reason is that—in my mind—he/and owning the WH would be much preferable to a Democrat ensconced there.
If nothing else, you would think that those so vehemently opposed to him would “keep their friends close, and their enemies closer”, wouldn’t you?
