In an email to POLITICO this afternoon, Robinson admitted that the site routinely blocks Romney supporters from posting -- and offered no apologies for the practice:
Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency. ...
Liberal progressives and other enemies of the constitution and or of Liberty itself are not welcome here. Accounts registered here by liberal progressives and other assorted trolls, malcontents and disruptors will be removed on sight or at the convenience of the site administrators.
The site came under fire from Ross Abraham, a blogger for Mitt Romney Central, who wrote today that Free Republic is just one of several sites (along with RedState, he says) on the right-wing Internet that are pretty much off limits to Mitt Romney's supporters.

Jim Rob referred to moi as an ass kisser of Mitt and other similar things for exploring the possibility that lemonade could be made out of the lemon waffle that is Mitt if in spite of all effort Mitt ends up the GOP nominee — a hypothetical outcome of which I am definitely not in favor. I make it no secret I am a Cainiac. Jim and I had a few words about it, but as you can see I haven’t gotten zotted yet, unlike another person who just blindly kept pushing Mitt and who blamed opposition to the idea on “hating Mormons.”
I am trying to approach it in as good humor as possible — see my tagline. I mean what the hell am I going to do, be a bull in a china closet here then go kvetch about the result on DU, where they would not be able to stand me for five minutes? The tension about Mitt here is clearly higher than it was in 2008 and Jim has taken an audacious stand.
I’m more right-wing than I am conservative so these Obama butt-lickers on politicrap may be unto something..

Subject: Question about Mitt Romney Central post
Hi Jim,
My name is Emily Schultheis, and Im a reporter for POLITICO. We saw this post on Mitt Romney Central alleging that RedState and Free Republic block Romney supporters from commenting: http://mittromneycentral.com/2011/10/29/red-state-and-free-republic-declare-war-on-mitt-romney-supporters-for-some-reason/
I just wanted to reach out and see if youd seen it, and get your comment. Does Free Republic ban people from commenting? And if so, what are the criteria used?
Thanks,
Emily

Yes, I saw it:

And added my editorial comment and links to the end of the post and also posted comments to the thread.
The mission of Free Republic is to restore the constitution as the supreme law of the land and to secure the blessings of Liberty for ourselves and our posterity. We do this by fighting for constitutionally conservative causes and candidates.
Liberal progressives and other enemies of the constitution and or of Liberty itself are not welcome here. Accounts registered here by liberal progressives and other assorted trolls, malcontents and disruptors will be removed on sight or at the convenience of the site administrators.
I have posted statements in this regard many times.
For example:

And heres one specifically addressing Mitt Romney:

This may be a bit hard for partisans, progressives, socialists and RINOs to understand, but FR stands on principle first. The constitution and the first amendment guarantees our God-given rights to free speech, free press and freedom of association as well as our right to control the content, use and direction of our own personal private property and electronic printing press, i.e., freerepublic.com.
For God, Family, Country, Life and liberty!

Jim Robinson
“However, if the election is Romney vs. Obama, I wont be voting for Obama.”
Neither will I.
But I won’t be stupid and vote for Romney either.
I will be voting third party in that case.
I just noticed that two of the cute animals in Disney’s movie Bolt are named Mittens and Rhino. How appropriate!
Liberalism is a disease and Romney is a carrier.
Sounds good to me!
BTTT!
A Romney nomination will guarantee a third-party nominee, ensure a second Obama term and kill the country as we know once and for all.
The WaPo b-teamers at Politico know this and will do everything in their power to make it happen. Attacking Cain and Free Republic is just the beginning.
love your tag line...lol!
“If it was Romney or Obama I suppose I would swallow 3 times hard and vote for Romney. Then go home and take a hot 3 hour shower.”
You need to understand that that is exactly what the progressive power brokers of the Republipuke Party are counting on. You will play right into their hands. It is time to break the cycle and quit voting “against” the other guy no matter who the Rino’s put on the ticket.
It is time for the Republicans to learn that we conservatives are not their’s to use as they see fit.
Be strong and principled, quit contributing to the destruction of this country. Don’t let the socialists get your vote just because they have an (R) after their name.
love your tag line...lol!
you need someone who is a local and can keep his org from getting hijacked.
Sorry Mitt - HuffPo not enough for you?
“Romney is an absolute nightmare. If its Romney vs Obama, I may sit this one out!”
Please don’t do that. At least write in a Conservative and then do your best to support any Conservative candidates that may be up for election for other offices.
That is what I plan to do if the Republichickens put Romney on the ticket.
Exactly!
Mitt: Why so socialist?
