Whirlpool Corp , the world's largest appliance maker, slashed its full-year profit forecast and said it would cut about 10 percent of its workforce in North America and Europe, to protect margins in a weak economic environment.

The maker of Maytag and KitchenAid appliances will cut more than 5,000 positions and said it would close down its plant in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and reduce its overall manufacturing capacity by about 6 million units.

Whatever happens, it is your fault (as a representative of a domestic manufacturer). Don’t you understand that our government, and by extension the protectionists on this thread, know what is best for you?

They just need to go and try to produce anything in this country and they will see how hard it is to comply with all the regulations. We spend about 30% of our time trying to comply with OHSA, EPA and Department of Labor.

By the way, what do you do for a living? Or what do you produce? I have a feeling you are in a service industry.

Trust me I know exactly who is involved. The company I work for is privately owed and very small. We do very custom work that the big companies have no interest in touching.

Just because you are not now a direct threat with your custom work that big companies are not interested in, does not mean your company is not a potential threat.

Big companies run by crony capitalists have no problem in harming you by onerous regulations regarding 'climate change', 'sustainability', 'diversity', 'justice', 'fairness', etc that are promulgated and enforced by an alphabet soup of agencies that even republicans congresses have no problem funding in the budget.

“I was told it had very few moving parts to go wrong”
Fischer Paykel washing machines have a direct drive motor directly under the tub. They are not belt drive. Their design allows the spin cylce to run at 10,000 rpms. It sounds like an airplane taking off. We have had our about 7 years and the only thing I have had to do is clean out the water screen in the back. We have a lot of iron in our well water.

Our KitchenAid dishwahser also has a stainless steel interior. We have had it about 3 years. So far no problems.

We have had our Amana/Maytag french door fridge about 5 years. So far no problems. However, we have the ice maker where you have to open the freezer drawer to get at it.

I think my next stove will be gas. At least then I could use it today. I am in NH. We got 12” wet heavy snow Saturday. NO ELECTRICITY. Oak , Maple & pine trees down all over. We will not get power back for several days. At least we have a wood stove.

For sure going with FischerPaykel when my old 25 yrs old Whirlpool washer and dryer go out. lol

I had heard they sounded like a jet talking off, but I can live with that for quality.

It would be a good thing for you to have the Gas stove due to the situation you are in with the freezing weather.

I have Gas heat unit, but when the Electric is out, well nothing there. I have a fireplace insert that heats the whole house. I have even cooked in that fireplace.

When I know a really bad storm is coming, I cook things up and all I need to do is heat up in the Fireplace, use an old camping type coffee pot. We eat good and stay toasty.

Thats funny, I used my old percolater coffee pot yesterday morning. I used my backpacker peak stove and brewed it out on the back porch.

Hey, it pays to save that old stuff, never know when it will come in handy.

One year, in a total Electric house. Our power was out for about 4 days. Oh well, we camped in the den and kitchen area.

I put blankets up around all the other doorways. Cooked in the fireplace and listened to music on an OLD Victrola, heehee. The 4 kids thought it was fun, for awhile. Second day they began to moan, turn off that Victrola. lol. Oh the memories though. We played a lot of games, stayed warm, and made do with what we had.

But let me tell you, we don't know how good we have it until something like the power or water is off.

“But let me tell you, we don’t know how good we have it until something like the power or water is off.”

First night we had already eaten/showered, had the woodstove cranking , kinda fun.

Next night, played monoploy. Showered at our daughter house.
Still OK.

Third night, second night of monoploy. Getting bored with that. Getting kind of pissy. This stinks.

Fourth day, got an electrician to install gentran switch box. Borrowed inlaws generator. Showered at home. Watch “Das Boat” on DVD. Everyone’s happy again.

We still do not have power. May not have it back until this weekend.

Oh my, I feel for you. Hang in there, help is on the way, and spring is just around about 6 monthly corners, rofl.

It just reminds one of how good times are when things are working right, no way could I have made it in the old west days.

RE Monoploy, Try this: I thought of this many years ago, never played it this way, but it could be fun and a lesson for the young.

If you are losing, no money left. At that point, you would get paid DOUBLE when going around go. Free utilities and Railroad.

The rich would have to give you Cheaper Rent, and the BANK would pay that rent. (looks good?, except you have to pay upkeep on those properties through the Chance & ? Cards (can't remember the other card, sorry). Repairs like, pay for broken windows/doors, Paint, repair carpet, etc., just like owning a Sec 8 home. lol Those welfare people think Landlords get RICH, hahahahahahahahahaha

Of course, if you are then on the WELFARE DOLE, you could never own property. You will not get to use the Get out of Jail Free card, stay until you pay.

If two or more are on the welfare system, I suppose they could pay, or trade something for money to get out of Jail, just like in real life when they sell their Stamps for cash for drugs.

Make it up as you see fit to MIMIC the current Gov't system. Make up the Chance and the other cards to fit. Maybe have a Welfare space & Card, get free something or other.

If you have young ones and they are winning, they will be pissed for sure, and will get a good lesson in real life.

Cheers

If you play it that way. Don't forget for the Landlords, they have a card for taxes and insurance and an increase card for those as well.

For the Welfare Babes: Have a card that says, you just had another BABY, double your Go around Go money. Don't forget the Free cell phone and Free Cable.

I figure that when the kids see this game, they will realize that once everyone goes BROKE, then what will the Welfare Babes do?.

This is more of a REAL LIFE game.
