Obama: Michele and I ‘got poorer together’ By Joshua Altman - 10/26/11 02:30 PM ET
Speaking to a group of university students Wednesday about student loan debt, President Obama said that when he and Michele got married.
“We combined and got poorer together," Obama said. "We combined our liabilities not our assets.”
Obama said that when they got married, he and Michele had a combined $120,000 in student loan debt and monthly payments on the debt were more than their mortgage.
The University of Colorado hosted the president on his way back from a west coast trip to promote his jobs plan.
The Obamas' latest tax returns show that he has come a long way since combining liabilities with the president and first lady reporting an income of $1.7 million in 2010.

Bought a house with a debt like that? I guess he didn’t know any more about economics then than he does now!
Wonder if those student loans were ever paid off or if that’s why he’s so sympathetic to that problem today? Poor babies!

It is my belief that black students who aren’t massively underqualified for admission (but admitted due to affirmative action) receive scholarships.
If Barry and Michelle weren’t offered full-ride scholarships to law school, they were the academic bottom of the barrel.

My kids go to state schools and have no debt. It can be done.
First of all, how did they afford a mortgage?
Second, how did they pay off the loans?
This is a nation of idiots. Including me for voting for the “other” party who allowed this kenyan to be president.

We had not paid off our loan debts until just a few years ago. Barack couldn’t even run for president.”
So they go to the most expensive schools in America and this First Lardy has the gall to complain about having to pay it back.

Awww. So the University of Illinois wasn’t good enough for either one of you? You had to go to Columbia, Harvard, Princeton? My heart bleeds. Some of us would have liked to go to those schools but decided we couldn’t take on that debt level and chose state schools instead. Incomprehensible as it may be, we came out of college and graduate school with more common sense than you and your wife appear to have done, Mr President. Seems you wasted your money.
