Martinsville Speedway
Race Menu for the weekend series

Martinsville Speedway As NASCAR has grown, so has Martinsville Speedway.

Martinsville Speedway ran its first NASCAR race on July 4, 1948. In 1949, Martinsville ran the sixth race in the series that eventually became the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.

Martinsville Speedway opened in 1947 with 750 seats and has grown continuously over the years. But, other than being paved in 1955, the track configuration has not changed since Red Byron won the inaugural event.

Martinsville Speedway, located three miles south of Martinsville, Va., is the only original NASCAR-sanctioned track still running NEXTEL Cup events.

Richard Petty, now a car owner, remains the track's leading winner with 15 victories.

Track Facts
Banking/Turns: 12 degrees

Great job, they started running the year I was born (48) did not know that.

Like myself, it appears the seating capacity has increased over the years....

Top 10 in the middle of a big snow storm. It is 22F with about 18 inches of heavy, wet snow.

About 100,000 in the Denver area without power because of falling trees and branches. NASCAR needss a winter racing league.

The Menards do ice racing up in Wisconsin and Minn.

I’m always surprised how many people show up for that outdoor NHL Winter Classic hockey deal on Jan 1.

I’m sure Nascar could pull it off if they wanted to.

It was ugly windy yesterday, and the daytime temp dropped from the 70’s to the 40’s. Hard freeze tonight.

That's my hope. Water is good. Too much is just right. We can always turn it loose downstream to Arizona and Vegas.

Got the wood burning stove fireplace insert fired up and enough wood inside to last through tomorrow. The thermostats are set to turn on the propane baseboard hot water heat at 62F in the living room and lower than that in the rest of the house (have 5 zones). The wood burning stove has the temp at 72F in the living room and I have it running slow.
