Lots of buzz about this among political junkies on Twitter tonight, mostly of the so-bad-its-good variety. Is the image of this guy taking a soothing drag on camera after 40 seconds of ad-tastic exertion really that strange and transgressive? Cains campaign is all about unapologetic populist authenticity, and theres nothing more unapologetically, authentically populist than defiantly lighting one up when the mood strikes, politesse be damned. As the man says, Weve run a campaign like nobodys ever seen. If youve got a problem with casual smoking during presidential spots, well, that only proves what an uptight establishment RINO you really are.
In the next spot, Block should have a smoke in one hand and a can of Schlitz in the other. And as the camera pulls back, theres Cain next to him, eating a slice of Godfathers and giving a big thumbs-up.

I remember growing up as a young teen and declaring my independence from the establishment by smoking a cigarette on school grounds.
Fast forward into adulthood, and I now find myself once again rebelling against an establishment of RINOS and Big Government who are forcefully trying to control me and you.
However, lighting up a smoke today symbolizes that it is now time for all of us to be John Wayne American heroes with a cigarette dangling from our lips and to fight fiercely for the freedoms that the establishment wants to take away from us.
As they say in the military, “”Smoke ‘em if You Got ‘em” because the “The Smoking Lamp is Now Lit”.
Your sincerity really touches my heart. Maybe I should reconsider....
That's why every little jot and tittle matters.
You mean the little things like how to spell "trees"?
LOL!
TF - I’m not even sure it WAS an ad. It was sent to supporters by email with a direct link to the video, with a note by Block.
It does not show up on Cain’s advertising channel on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/user/thehermancain#p/u
I think its funny, and it kind of fits Block, but I’m not going to read too much into it as a “campaign strategy”. For all I know, their server was hacked - that has been happening a LOT lately.
The only thing that will stop Romney is for enough people to go out and support, work for and vote for a conservative in the primaries. People sitting on the sidelines or not engaged will not be a factor in stopping Romney.
No candidate can stop Romney or Obama, only the people can.
Think of it as a laid back jam session before sitting down to cut an album. Or a pencil sketch drawn on the back of an envelop to help you develop a plan for a sculpture.
These video spots are cheap and easy to make, and they will help Cain flesh out how he can best show his individuality and character.
Of course, you are welcome to dislike him. But when I look at Mr Cain, I see a good, smart man that loves his country and is skillfully assembling a campaign literally from the ground up.
You have a strange idea about breaking the rules here and though I didn't report your previous ones, I'll take this now to the highest source.
You have personally attacked me, for no reason, threatened to stalk me, and when I used a perfectly good word, called it "FAGGOTY LANGUAGE", with the implicit implication that I am an homosexual, just because you are unfamiliar with the word codswallop.
You have yet to make a valid or substansive point, vis-a-vis the topic of this thread, hijacking it for your own personal agenda.
Damn!
I gave up smoking late summer between grade six and seven. I was a Marlboro Ma.....kid then.
Adds like this make ya wanna take it up again and be ...cool.
OK, time for poll.
If you smoked, what brand would you smoke?
Me? Probably Marlboro, the red carton.
Is this what you meant, stalker, by what you threatened to do? If so, it's not going to help you any.
I like Ron Paul, but that’s a good ad. I have no idea if that’s going to make anyone vote for him, but I enjoyed it. And the comments on youtube are classic, although about 2/3ds dislike it.
Oh, geez... you have no touch for a conversational post, do you? I feel like I’m being lectured about the rudimentary workings of campaigning, the primaries and the purpose of voting in America.
How pleasant.

Me thinks that it is only polite to add my nic, whilst talking about me. There ARE rules here. :-)
Grow up!
Maybe you would be more comfortable on a "chat" thread. This is a "politics/activism" thread where "activists" are in serious discussions about politics that might determine the fate of our Country. If you want fluff, this isn't the place for it.
Mark Block, the guy in the video, is a heavy chain smoker. There isn’t much more to read into the video. Block is the guy who went to Cain and urged him to run for President.
I’ve spent some time with Block and he smokes every chance he gets. I spent 10 minutes outside waiting for a reporter to show up and he went through at least 2 cigarettes.
I love it!
Oh, please. Mr. “Fiscally Irresponsible” has NO campaign debt, and is on top of most polls.
First of all, should Cain get the nomination, he has very little experience running a campaign and what little he has, is bad.
Being an "outsider" is all well and good...........except that means that he has no idea who to pick for a variety of positions;first for his campaign and secondly, should he become president, for all of the positions he will have to fill.
He is a business man. He has never had to deal with anything even remotely like Congress;let alone foreign dignitaries, heads of state, lobbyists, etc.!
Advisers to any and every politician are important. So HOW and WHOM does he chose and why?
From what he has said during the debates, we know that he doesn't like Perry. He supported Romney in the last go round. Does he like Newt? Probably and he also probably knows him better than the others.
Cain has NO record at all. So it's just his words now and since he has backtracked on some things, thus far, we can't just take him at his word, since there have been some flip flops, talking first and then changing some things later, and so on.
Is he ready to go up against Obama and the full thrust of the MSM/DEM machine? NO WAY and sadly, he still hasn't shown me that he has done any work to correct that problem.
He is trying to start at the top, which in times past, was frowned upon and ridiculed.
And before you try to throw Washington, Jackson, and/or Ike at me, those generals had dealings with Congress ( The Continental Congress for Washington ) prior to running for president.
There's more, but these really are things to mull over.
Both the Dems and the GOPers did everything in their power to get Ike to not only run for president, but to do so for their party. Once Ike decided to go it as a GOPer, the full force of the party and pols stepped in to help him.Do you honestly believe that the GOP will do that for Cain and/or that he'll accept the help?
I've read that he likes to do it all on his own. Perhaps that's true, perhaps it isn't; I don't know and I bet that nobody else here does either.
I sure hope Block lives through the campaign, ‘cause with ads like that one, We The People will see a new thing, maybe an antidote to PC even.
