"But after giving it some thought, I changed my mind. Newt is the best debater of the candidates, and he could destroy Cain, but will he? I doubt it. He’s too smart to get overly aggressive. Remember how he likes to steer debate conversations toward Obama?"

BINGO. Your thinking paralleled mine exactly. I first thought "uh-oh" for Cain, but you're right. Newt would NOT make Cain look bad. First, because Cain's a pretty darned good debater himself. Second because he wouldn't want to alienate the Cain supporters. And third because, as you said, he's clearly made a decision (for lots of reasons I imagine) to focus on Obummer.

I PRAY this is televised somwehere, somehow.

I'm about a 5 hour drive away (in Longview, TX) and am seriously thinking about driving down!

I do hope it happens. I think at some point the Repubs (the organization or 2 people of Republican persuasion) have to do something like this to break the MSM stranglehold on the format. It does need to be live and unfiltered. If directed the proper way, which is towards deficient liberal policies first and then each one’s ideas, it could be successful. Throw out the attacks on who mowed who’s yard and who had a graffittied rock at their place, and let’s debate ideas.
